Yunkel is a character from Lupin the Third Part III.
Character History[]
Yunkel was a thief who had become a priest at Nakatoi village in Alaska and had followers in his church. He has a henchman called Gordon.
According to Lupin III, he was a well spoken, slimy and petty thief and due to that he was short, he was always a few steps behind of him as in one occasion Yunkel and Gordon tried to break into a safe but was knocked out by a glove that Lupin planted there. Lupin says that they went to places that he had already broken into for nothing and called him obsessive.
At a church, he was chanting and praying to the Virgin Mary statue with a scream at the end. He turned around and showed his followers claiming that the evil that was in the village had disappeared thanks to their prayers by the golden statue. His followers were impressed however Yunkel tells them that a greater evil had emerged called Lupin III, the followers were surprised that there was a devil called Lupin. He tells them that Lupin is after the golden statue who they consider the patron saint. They didn't want the statue gone and considered Lupin to be the devil. Gordon had come up saying that they shouldn't let Lupin defile their beloved saint as he wants them to see them prey for Satan and wanting them to go to Hell. The followers vowed to protect the statue and attack Lupin, they decided to travel to Miami to go after Lupin and Fujiko Mine.
Gordon had kidnapped Fujiko then was tied up, as she woke up she saw Gordon and Yunkel. He asked her whether she's woken up and she wondered why, he laughed and called her "as beautiful as they say". Fujiko pouted and Yunkel says that he was an old acquaintance of Lupin and his job, he moved Fujiko's face to face him and asked her to ditch Lupin so she can join him. She refused and pulled her tongue out. He deviously thought that he would force her to co-operate but Fujiko says that she shouldn't be treated like this and Lupin will save her, she wanted to be untied as he walked away. Gordon was waiting for Lupin but Yunkel punched the back of his head shouted at him to shut up as he would ruin everything. The bells had started to ring and chuckled thinking about the crucifixion.
Fujiko was then put on a cross and it became a public gathering of his followers. Yunkel stretched his arms out saying that the Lord has accepted his people and when they beat the devil Lupin, the Gates of Heaven would open for them. The followers agreed and he proclaimed Fujiko as a witch wanting to burn her at the stake. Fujiko was surprised that she was a witch and told him that it was nonsense and a lie. He waved his arms telling his followers not to listen as a witch always tries to deceive people with their beauty and words, he asked the Virgin Mary to protect them as Yunkel and his followers knelled down to pray. The bells rang and the statue popped up, Gordon interrupted Yunkel's prayer informing him a report from a guard and he knew that it was Lupin.
Yunkel's followers put a bundle of sticks by the cross as she was fed up with the joke and not a witch. Holding a torch, Yunkel proclaiming for the Virgin Mary, they will burn the witch in the name of the Father, Son and the Holy Spirit with the followers agreeing. Fujiko wanted it stopped but he says that if you're a witch, call the Devil Lupin for help dropping the torch onto the wooden sticks to burn Fujiko alive. Lupin heard her plea for help as Lupin, Daisuke Jigen and Goemon Ishikawa XIII got on snowmobiles, Yunkel spotted them as the devil and Goemon used the Zantetsuken to free Fujiko with Lupin saving her. Yunkel and his followers ran away as he was caught on fire, he managed to cool down as they escaped with the statue. Yunkel called Lupin the devil and the followers decided to attack Lupin.
They grouped and sent the dogs after the Lupin gang as it turned out that the statue was a fake and was really a tracker. Gordon heard a buzz as Goemon sliced the statue with the Zantetsuken, Yunkel was annoyed that they found the transmitter and told his followers to hurry as they are around the area. The Lupin gang managed to get away from the spot but a torch was thrown as Yunkel, Gordon and the followers had caught up. Lupin was glad to see Yunkel but joked that he was fast despite his short legs, Yunkel however was annoyed telling him to shut up as he was finished. He ordered his followers to kill Lupin as they threw axes and arrows at them but they missed, then fired from their guns as Jigen and Goemon had managed to unmask the followers. Fujiko had figured out that the village was a hideout for the most wanted criminals and Goemon thought that they were scared of going to hell as they thought that the Lupin gang were demons coming for them. The followers claim that the statue would save them as they gathered the gold dust in Alaska to make it and wanted it to be returned but Lupin points out that it was gold plated. Yunkel grumbled as he thought that it was a lie and fired from his Colt pistol, he shot Lupin as he fell backwards and laughed as he destroyed the Devil himself proclaiming that the Lord gave them this power and will kill the others. Fujiko found Lupin "dead" decided to throw a grenade, they were scared however it landed on Lupin's body, they ducked down from the explosion.
Jigen, Goemon and Fujiko managed to get away during the blast and the followers went after them but Yunkel and Gordon stayed behind, he grumbled that Fujiko was still alive but happy that Lupin is dead so they can steal anything that they wanted on Earth. He laughed and Gordon said "to hell with the others", Yunkel wanted to leave the village and take the real statue with them.
Yunkel and Gordon had returned to the church as they hid the real statue in an underground cave. He laughed when he saw the statue and thinks that he's smarter than Lupin III, he also thought that Lupin was dead after being accused of stealing the Virgin Mary statue and the real one was right in front of them. Lupin says "I don't think so" and he turned around to see a bear wondering who it was, he replied Lupin III. Yunkel and Gordon were terrified to see him alive wondering how it was possible, Lupin laughed and called him a dork. He wanted Lupin dead but he explains that Yunkel was a poor shot only hitting his jacket, Lupin and Fujiko winked at each other and as Fujiko threw the grenade, Lupin removed his jacket and tunnel down into the snow. Yunkel growled as he found out that Fujiko had blown up something but Lupin interrupted saying it was just a snow drift however he was cold from just being in his boxers.
He ordered Gordon to get Lupin and threw a whip, Lupin says to "Gordon-chan" that only an amateur would throw a whip in a confided space but Yunkel wanted to kill him. Gordon tripped up and smashed his head on an icicle with Lupin saying that he sucked so much that it wasn't funny. Yunkel was furious and got out his gun however Lupin disarmed it with the whip hurting his hands. Lupin sneaked around to take the statue when he got electrocuted by the laser, Yunkel laughed as he had done that to protect the statue and it worked. He opened the electric box and pulled the lever to turn up the voltage as he wanted to fry Lupin alive, he smiled and wanted Lupin to die in front of him moving the lever further up. Lupin threw a whip directly to Yunkel as he was getting electrocuted as well causing the electric box to blow up.
Lupin managed to get the statue and Yunkel went after him, both still shocked. An icicle fell onto his head and collapsed, it is unknown whether he is alive or dead.
