— Wataru Uraga to Lupin, referring to Rebecca Rossellini |
Wataru Uraga was a genius scientist and Rebecca Rossellini's former primary love interest before her eventual career in stardom.
History[]
At some early point in Rebecca's life, she and Uraga fell in love. Determined to be with Uraga, she apparently "broke free of the restraints of her family" and came to live with him in Libertas.
Some unspecified time after that, Uraga started developing the Italian Dream, knowing that governments ("shadow people" as he described them, in a metaphorical and literal sense) are after his research to conduct human experimentation. He wrote most of it on a book, along with the location of his research, which was hidden in an abandoned house.
MI6 agents, as revealed in the Italian dream, later killed him and made it look like he committed suicide by overdosing on barbiturates. They eventually rummaged through this things and stole whatever research they got ahold of. After that, Rebecca continued to hold on the book which contained many of his writings and set out to decipher them, which was ultimately done by Lupin III on a single night.
Through the Italian Dream, Uraga explains himself to Lupin III, and tells him to burn all his research.
Appearance[]
In his appearance in the Italian Dream, Uraga has messy hair, glasses, and a shaven beard. He wears a striped undershirt, denim pants, and a coat.
Personality[]
Uraga is calm, and is usually heavily focused on whatever research he's currently working on at the time.
Etymology[]
- The name Wataru is written in katakana (ワタル), which has no special meaning. However, when written in kanji (渉, 亘, 亙, 渡, 航, 弥, 済, 亘琉, 航瑠 or 和多留), it could possibly mean:
- 渉 - "ford, ferry, port".
- 亘 - "span, request".
- 亙 - "range, reach, extend, cover".
- 渡 - "transit, ford, ferry, cross, import, deliver, diameter, migrate".
- 航 - "navigate/navigation, sail, cruise, fly".
- 弥 - "all the more, increasingly".
- 済 - "finish, come to an end, excusable, need not, already".
- 亘琉 - "span, request" (亘) (wata) and "precious stone, gem, lapis lazuli" (琉) (ru).
- 航瑠 - "navigate/navigation, sail, cruise, fly" (航) (wata) and "lapis lazuli" (瑠) (ru).
- 和多留 - "harmony, peace" (和) (wa), "many" (多) (ta) and "detain, fasten, halt, stop" (留) (ru).
- Wataru's surname Uraga means "inlet, bay, gulf, creek, cove" (浦) (ura) and "congratulations, joy" (賀) (ga).
