Socrates Nexus is a character of Lupin the 3rd Part 2.
History[]
Socrates Nexus was an underworld crime boss who rules over Monaco. He also owned a mansion, a Rolls Royce and had henchmen under his command. One of his hobbies is gambling especially playing poker.
His henchman had delivered Fujiko Mine to his mansion, Nexus welcomed her and told her to come in as well as ordering his henchman to watch over Lupin III, Daisuke Jigen and Goemon Ishikawa XIII.
Nexus then showed Fujiko the photos that his henchmen had took of Lupin's Formula 1 car that had a 12-cylinder engine, running at 500hp on 12,000 rpm. Fujiko had figured out that Lupin will win the Monaco Grand Prix tomorrow. Moving his arm, he tells her that he has to figure out a plan to stop Lupin.
His henchman had reported to Nexus that Lupin, Jigen and Goemon who had left the Grace Hotel are off to the casino as he picked up his golden phone knowing that was what he wanted then put the phone down.
As Lupin cleared out the other gamblers in the casino, he was looking for another opponent and Nexus who was with Fujiko volunteered with a cigar on him. Lupin was surprised and asked Fujiko why she was in Monaco, she says that she was invited by Nexus as he sat down smoking, he was still surprised that she was invited without telling him. Nexus suggested to play one on one as he went into his jacket to get a bundle of money, Lupin was getting annoyed as Fujiko put her hand on Nexus' shoulder and was cheering for him. With bitterness and jealousy saying "Nexus or Texas", Lupin accepted his challenge despite Jigen advised him not to as he was too emotional. In a shifty fashion, Nexus looked at Fujiko and mumbled his plan.
Lupin and Nexus were playing poker with Lupin losing chips at each round. While Lupin got three of a kind however Nexus got a straight flush, then three cards at another round and then a full house. Nexus was scratching his head while Lupin was angry smoking his cigar. After Goemon was addicted on the slot machine, Lupin then decided to go all in with his final bet causing Nexus to be surprised then looked at his cards causing Lupin to smile. He then scratched his ear while making a poker face. It turns out that his gold ring has a transmitter that is hooked up to a screen with two of his henchmen watching. He tells Nexus that Lupin has four Queens as the Mona Lisa picture was watching him. Lupin called as Nexus gave all of his gold chips and raised his hands. Jigen warns Lupin to withdraw however Lupin decides to strip himself leaving only his boxers to add into the bundle. Nexus smiles and says that it is not enough as Lupin dragged Jigen and pulled his clothes, he taunted Lupin saying that he will win unless he has something else. Lupin shouted and offered his Formula 1 in the hotel car park. Nexus smiled and wanted to call. Lupin reveals his four Queens ready to grab the chips however Nexus chuckled saying that he is an unlucky man due to that he has four Kings and reveals his deck of four Kings and an Ace. Lupin then screamed as he lost the chips, his and Jigen's clothes and the car.
Fujiko then tells Lupin that he is going to hold a lavish gambling party with millionaires at the Monaco Grand Prix with enough money that they can buy the country two or three times over. The millionaires have placed their bets on the drivers that include Jacky Stuart, Whitman and Niki Lauda. She also tells Lupin that Nexus made a mistake by betting on him however Jigen mentions that if Lupin ended up driving his F1 car, Nexus would be the one making money. She also says that Lupin can keep his car if he wins.
Nexus picks up his golden phone and Fujiko tells him that Lupin had agreed to enter the race, he said good job to her.
On the day of the Monaco GP, Nexus had attended alongside the drivers, Lupin, Prince Rainer and Grace Kelly. He sat down on the same row as the other millionaires as he watched the race on the end seat. At his mansion, his henchmen had gathered the betting money when his leading henchman picked up the phone to let him know that they got all the money ready to transport to the casino. Nexus asked the betting odds and his henchman had replied that Niki Lauda was highest then Whitman was second and Stewart was third, he asked Lupin however he mentions that he is absolutely unpopular being the lowest on the table. Nexus smiled as the odds are good in his favour and claims that all of the betting money will be his. As Jigen spied out of the mansion, Nexus' henchmen put the money into an armored truck.
His leading henchman contacted Nexus by saying that the money was stolen and Fujiko betrayed him, he was outraged and shouted for his henchmen to capture Fujiko, Jigen and Goemon as well as to get back the money. They had blocked all of the borders out of Monaco.
As Niki Lauda won the Monaco GP, Nexus got up and was shocked then sat back down exhausted. His leading henchman then whispered to him and found out that Lupin and Fujiko worked together. Nexus was annoyed that he would never forgive him. The other millionaires asked for their betting money back, he was sweating with his finger up then with his hands open saying that Lupin has the money and worried as he claims to get the money back as he "never meant to pocket the money". Nexus was then beaten up off screen as he was the last person left on the track with his hands and knees on the tarmac with all of his money gone, he then cried knowing that Lupin ruined his life.
In Lupin the Third Part 5, he posted on PeopleLog saying that "he took every cent that he had". Nexus was reduced to living in a rundown apartment with only a broken cup, a golden kettle and a table left, his trousers had patches sowed onto them. He became friends with Mr. Gold as they both share the same interest in gold and they decided to have a drink in a bar as he managed to get new trousers. When Lupin was captured, he claimed that one of his gang betrayed him but thought that it was a joke however when Lupin was "missing", he threw the glass on the floor wondering where he had disappeared to.
