Smith is a character of Lupin the 3rd Part 1.
History[]
Smith is a beauty contest promoter who works with Richard.
10 years ago, he was an art thief who stole tons of historic artworks including a painting by Picasso, Blonde Bather (1882) by Renoir, the Mona Lisa and a print by Utamaro. While he was arrested, he was released due to lack of evidence. Since then, he aged now wearing glasses and having a mustache.
Coming out of a plane Smith was with Richard, the other promoters and the models as Lupin III and Daisuke Jigen scout outside the airport.
He attended the Miss Global beauty contest along with the art collecting judges and was informed that not only that he had skilled Japanese TV camera crew (Lupin, Jigen and Fujiko Mine) but also that the final judging is at a larger tropical island to do the art auction.
In an office, Smith had prepared a catalog to give to the judges. While they appear to be reviewing the models, underneath the photo is showing one of the artworks. The points count not only the models but also for the final price of the artwork. According to Lupin, it is hard to offload stolen artwork so they came up with the beauty contest so they can do business and to have an alibi.
Lupin sent Smith a letter where he was surprised along with the other judges saying that he will steal the beauties. He wondered whether Lupin knew about his plan and told the other judges to call Koichi Zenigata as he knew that he devotes his life into catching Lupin. One of the judges thought that it was risky since he might find out about the plan however Smith claimed the plan is foolproof and fear Lupin instead of Zenigata.
In the day of the Miss Global contest, he is in the same booth as Mr. Morgan and watches the event. He asked Morgan about his thoughts on Miss Arnoul, then in the catalog he pulled the photo to reveal the Blonde Bather causing Morgan to write down on paper his thoughts. Smith smiles as Morgan
As Goemon Ishikawa XIII comes in attacking the guards and slices the booths, Smith had run away while Morgan put the catalog in his mouth. While Goemon runs into the luggage room with Zenigata chasing after him, Smith and the judges returned holding their suitcases.
Returning to the main hall with the other judges, a bruised Morgan asked what is next and he replied that there is just the photo shoot and the final judging. According to Fujiko, they ran off quickly with their luggage to their ship while the model moved to the other ship.
In disguise, Lupin asked Smith if he was allowed to interview the models and he gave him the go ahead. Zenigata came running and Smith asked whether he caught Goemon however he was unable to do so. Smith thought that it was good that he got plans to get him but after explaining to Zenigata where he was heading, he was going to escort the models personally. A guard came running by saying that Lupin is somewhere else and Zenigata left as he took his place, it was Goemon in disguise. One of the judges was concerned but Smith says it is no big deal and shouted to cast off.
Smith and the judges made it on the large island and went inside a house, then pulled the curtain to give the results of the judging but Morgan wanted to see the artwork. He replied that the artwork is with the models and arriving soon. One of the judges says that it is careless but Smith assures that it would give them an alibi. He asked Richard to go to the dock to pick to the luggage that Lupin and Jigen in disguise had delivered. Smith asked Lupin about the cop but says that he was too distracted by the women and compared them to art who then left. He then asked the judges who are really art dealers to give out the cash for the artwork and asked Richard for the results.
After the results were given, he asked the dealers to do the suitcase that is the same number that they won. Zenigata comes in to say that the models are missing but he was surprised that they were missing and didn't know. He then asked Smith about the boxes and the money, he grabbed the money and saying that it was nothing. After grabbing the money and ready to walk away, Smith tripped on a box and it opened revealing the model that was tied up. The other officers opened up the boxes and saw the tied up models. Smith then opened the last box and Lupin left him a note saying that he took the beauties.
He was shocked as the officers held him by saying that Lupin did this however Zenigata reminds him that he wouldn't do this and claimed that he used Lupin's name to kidnap and traffic the women. The others then arrested Morgan, Richard and Goddard. Smith panicked and cursed "Damn you Lupin".
While being arrested, he witnessed Lupin stealing the artwork and put it on a sail to get away. He claimed that it was mine however it was not as they were stolen.
