Censorship[]
Italian[]
(Note: Since this was compared with the Italian DVDs, the TV airings might be more censored.)The MITO Film dub was censored:
- In the first dub, all references to the Virgin Mary were written out due to religious reasons including the title. This was reverted in the CDR dub and the title became Operazione: Vergine Maria.
- All the scenes where Fujiko was put on the cross and the cultists were ready to burn her, this was due to religious reasons. The only scene that was kept in during these moments was when Yunkel and Gordon talk to each other.
- A brief scene where in a flashback Yunkel and Gordon were shown to be knocked out after Lupin had broke the safe. It switches between Italian to Japanese on the DVDs.
- After Goemon cuts with cross with the Zantetsuken, Fujiko falls into Lupin's arms was cut.
- When the Lupin gang get away, Yunkel shouts that the devil Lupin stole the Mary statue. The dub returns when the cultists are pleading to kill Lupin while getting the statue back.
- For no reason, just before the end of Part 1 Fujiko shouting "Lupin!" was cut as it switches to Japanese audio on the DVDs.
- As soon as Lupin touches the electric barrier to get the statue, the scenes where Lupin and later Yunkel getting electrocuted were cut. The only scene that was kept in the Italian dub was when Lupin walked away with the statue.
Notes[]
- The episode is a partial adaptation of the New Lupin III (Manga) chapter Overnight Getaway, the part that was adapted was when the henchmen are attacking the cabin where Goemon and Fujiko were in, Lupin in disguise fools them by planting dynamite so they can escape with the statue. Jigen was added into the episode.
There are two moments where the English subtitles that are used in streaming sites such as Crunchyroll has skipped dialogue:
- When Yunkel is praying to the Virgin Mary statue. This dialogue is also skipped in the fan translation meaning that it is currently not translated.
- When the henchmen are firing with their machine guns at the house where Jigen, Goemon and Fujiko are hiding and the boss is pointing, according to the fan translation it says, "You have three opponents, shoot! shoot!".
The cabin where Jigen, Goemon and Fujiko take cover from the henchmen shares some similarities with the cabin that The Tramp takes refuge in in Charlie Chaplin's The Gold Rush. Similarities include its layout (featuring a square central table), and the gaping chasm one door opens onto, into which Jigen nearly falls (as The Tramp did).
