Translation Notes[]
The original Japanese title refers to the religious and cultural Shinigami, the personification god of Death. The English Crunchyroll title renamed this to Garb, The Grim Reaper while the 2021 Italian dub to Il nero mietitore, since the Grim Reaper is the Western culture equivalent.
While in the fan translation and the Crunchyroll title/synopsis uses Garb, TMS however has named him Gurve in both the first Italian dub and the English subtitles first used in the UTB Hollywood airing that was later used for the English subtitles on streaming sites. Both Garb and Gurve are acceptable when translating from Japanese (due to a/u as well as b/ve), the former is the more common translation.
Censorship[]
Italian[]
(Note: Since this was compared with the Italian DVDs, the TV airings might be more censored.) There were a few scenes that were cut in the Italian dub:
- The flashback of Garb killing the guards at the casino vault, the line about stealing from the casino was moved to the next scene where Gurve and Fujiko escape by helicopter.
- The entire scene when Fujiko is having her shower is cut.
- When Lupin runs with Jigen out of Fujiko's safehouse, the small scene with the bra and panties on the plant was cut.
Notes[]
- Jigen reads an article about Rally driving in French.
- The scene where Lupin is putting on his pink jacket while Jigen is holding a Play Bohz magazine was also referenced in the eye catch of Part 5 Episode 6.
- Lupin's transmitter makes the same sound as Fujiko's in Lupin VS the Clone
