Notes[]

  • Until Part 4 Episode 1 in 2015, this was the last TV episode of Lupin the 3rd before it went towards films, television specials, spinoffs and OVA specials for 30 years. The episode ends abruptly where instead of the next episode preview, it announces that it is the last episode of the series due to that it got cancelled. The message also reused images from earlier episodes.
  • Due to the scheduling of the series and baseball taking priority on the TV station, this episode ended up being backup programming in case baseball got rained off. Some sources claim that the episode was aired on November 6, 1985, TMS however officially class this episode has aired on December 25, 1985[3] when it was aired on NTV rather than YTV. The episode was only aired in the Tokyo and Kansai regions, and was unaired for the rest of Japan.
  • According to Toshio Furukawa who played Robert in the episode, a Farewell message from the cast was planned for the episode however the voice actors did not want to do it and got a female announcer instead. Yasuo Yamada was going to say "This is goodbye!" however decided not to and told the staff "I don't want to lie, how do you do something new anyway?" [4]
  • Was later remade into the TV Special Orders to Assassinate Lupin. Not only that it had the same writer but also had the same idea of stealing the Ivanov submarine. The main difference is the Cold War subplot was dropped and replaced with weapon smugglers, an Interpol assassin and a love interest for Jigen.
  • The animation is off model for the majority of the episode, Tatsuo Yanagino (aka Tatsuo Ryuno) was the main animator for the episode focusing on expressive and fluid animation. Oh! Production was involved with the Zenigata scenes from 17:45 to 19:13 and Fujiko Mine in the Ivanov communicating to Robert and Colonel Mangovich due to the different character design, the latter appears in 18:13-18:17, 18:30-18:37 and 19:05-19:07.
  • The letter that Fujiko received shows the name of two songs "You've Got the Power" and "Love Me Tender". It is also stamped August 1985.
  • Funky Monster Party from The Legend of the Gold of Babylon playing during the nightclub scene and when the CIA spies invade the meeting between the KGB and Fujiko.
  • Koichi Zenigata blinks the flags of Kuwait, the UK, the Soviet Union and the USA.
  • The woman that Robert is with and kisses when he talks to Fujiko resembles Saranda.
  • Zenigata riding on a missile was featured in Part 2 Episode 31.
