"Code Name is Star of Alaska" is the 27th episode of Lupin the 3rd Part III.

Synopsis[]

Lupin and his gang were pursuing Flight 107, when Soviet Union planes suddenly shoot it down for wandering into its territory inadvertently. To Lupin’s despair, the now sunken Flight 107 was carrying a ring called the Star of Alaska, or in Lupin’s mind, his engagement ring to Fujiko. Fujiko had told Lupin that she’d marry him if he gets the Star of Alaska for her, but Lupin soon finds out the CIA and KGB are also after the Star of Alaska. What secret does the Star of Alaska hold and is it truly at the bottom of the ocean?

Mistakes[]

  • The newspaper that Fujiko reads says "ROKKY MOUNTEN PRESS" instead of Rocky Mountain Press. In the next scene it changes from English to French.

Censorship[]

Jigen surprised
"This is it? ... but it's an empty ruin!"

Notes[]

  • This episode and the next one are linked due to both having the Star of Alaska. Both Italian dubs made this episode a two parter.
  • This episode depending on source plays either the original opening or this was the first episode to use the second opening by Yuzo Aoki. According to Secret File 2: Sound Collection, this originally had the second opening [1]. Japanese VHS and DVD releases use the first opening, the version that was used on UTB Hollywood and is on Crunchyroll with the remastered video use the second opening however on the Japanese Blu-ray, it uses the first opening. The Japanese VHS, DVD and Blu-ray releases have episode 35 to be the first episode to use the opening.
  • This episode is also the first to use the second eyecatch of Lupin pulling a cloth but Zenigata inside the hat arrests him but the hat is cut open showing a puppet, this was also done by Yuzo Aoki due to the use of the puppet.
  • When the skiiers go down the mountain and go below Fujiko who was at a wooden balcony, a visible black line appears at the top of the screen. This only appears in the remastered version.
  • The newspaper that Fujiko was reading at the ski resort is from the same source that Jigen read in Part III Episode 7 about rally driving in French but changed a photo to add a fighter plane.
  • Jigen mentioning Humphrey Bogart is a reference to The Mystery of Mamo.
  • The suit of armor that Lupin wore says 27, this is the 27th episode in the series.
  • The news reporter resembles Willy from Part III Episode 14.
