Censorship[]
Italian[]
(Note: Since this was compared with the Italian DVDs, the TV airings might be more censored.) There were various scenes that were cut in the 1987 Italian dub including a plotline:
- After Lupin gives out the ransom money, where the masked goons collect the money and Lupin holds Fujiko in disguise ready for a kiss was cut. This cut is the first mention of the bet that is part of the plotline however the next line was kept that she'll bet for Lupin then changes back to Japanese when she was ready to click the fingers then changes back to Italian when she clicks the fingers. It is unknown why it was cut out as it had no questionable content to remove.
- When Ron kisses Fujiko-chan and lies on the couch resting on Fujiko's thighs then hugs and kisses her.
- As Lupin opens the door to see Ron hugging a naked Fujiko however it turns out to be a dummy.
- In the following scene, any appearance of the naked Fujiko dummy was cut. This also includes Ron screaming for mama and she's saying that "He's come as expected."
- When "Ron" spies on Fujiko's body and she gets out of bed thinking that it is a creepy place.
- When "Ron" goes into the bedroom where Fujiko was sleeping had various cuts where it switches to Japanese then Italian then Japanese then Italian again. When Fujiko has her hands on her hips unable to accept "Ron's" gift as he gave her roses and him saying "Don't be so cold to me Fujiko-chan, you're already mine". "Ron" sulking as she was too cold for him, then puts his hands out ready to attack Fujiko as he removes his clothes and jumps onto bed while Fujiko struggles. The only scenes that were kept in the Italian dub were when Fujiko throws the roses at "Ron", "Ron" getting angry as "I can't stand it anymore" after the rejection and the first time when the camera is on the wall mentioning that Mrs. Alda had won the bet. Some of the cuts were due to mentioning that Lupin is going to get hung.
- When Fujiko struggles and taken to Mrs. Alda by the goons then sets on the chair. The cut was due to Mrs. Alda mentioning that Ron's privates were hurt and that Fujiko is willing to choosing her own man. It is unknown whether Ron covering his hurt area and rushing to Mrs. Alda out of embarrassment was cut in the TV airings.
- As Mrs. Alda looks at her watch, she orders "Ron-chan" to turn on the screen to see the noose as the TV reporter talks about the planned execution of Lupin and "Ron" proposes to Fujiko willing to give anything that she wants.
- As Fujiko gasps, Mrs. Alda says "Ahh... Lupin is coming out".
The entire execution scene was cut, both from "Lupin" and "Zenigata"'s side and Fujiko, Mrs. Alda and "Ron"'s side. The Italian dub returns when "Ron" is pointing his gun at Fujiko and she hears Lupin's voice.
- When Mrs. Alda screams "Ron-chan!" and scratching the screen after Lupin explains about hypnotising Ron thinking that he is Lupin. Since this appears twice, both times are cut.
- When the TV reporter and Zenigata turn out to be Goemon and Jigen as they drive away revealing Ron to be alive and both Ron and Mrs. Alda screaming at each other. The Italian DVD master has out of sync audio during this scene.
Mistakes[]
- On the police map, it is written as Manhatan rather than Manhattan.
- When the van that Lupin uses for his getaway is first shown, it is correctly written as CHICKEN!! however in a later scene where Lupin meets with Fujiko, it is misspelt as CHIKIN with no exclamation marks.
Translation Notes[]
In the Japanese original, both Mrs. Alda and Ron uses the "chan" suffix as Mrs. Alda calls him Ron-chan and Ron calls Fujiko, Fujiko-chan (the nickname usually given by Lupin). In the English subtitles that was used in UTB Hollywood airings and later on Crunchyroll, it mixes it up as Mrs. Alda calls him baby dropping his name or nickname in some scenes while Ron says darling Fujiko and Fuji-poo. Fujicakes is not used despite being the English nickname that Lupin gives Fujiko. Ron also calls Mrs. Alda mama or mama-chan while this was translated as mommy. In the first Italian dub, Mrs. Alda calls Ron, Ron dear.
During the scene where Lupin III is wanted, the TV reporter talks over while Lupin and Jigen are talking however currently this is not translated as it doesn't appear in both English translations.
There is also a translation mistake in the subtitles used on UTB Hollywood and Crunchyroll, when Lupin removes his old man disguise to Zenigata, he actually says "tottsan" (Pops) while the subtitles say "Hey buddy!"
Notes[]
- This episode along with Part III Episode 15 make up the majority of the Italian opening where it is known as Lupin, l'incorreggibile Lupin. Scenes include the zooming into and around New York, when Lupin hides in a waste bin, when Lupin talks to Mrs. Alda via a TV screen, when the helicopters are searching for Lupin, when Lupin removes his disguise and the title is applied to when Lupin III appeared wanted on the TV.
- As Jigen switches off the TV, he appears to be wanted.
