Notes[]

  • This one of the few episodes of Lupin that deals with truly supernatural elements, in this case archangel Michael and Fallen angel Lucifer.
  • The plot of this episode resembles one of Mamoru Oshii's suggested ideas for what would become The Legend of the Gold of Babylon. In one of these ideas, an architect had built the Tower of Babel in the heart of Tokyo before killing himself upon completion, with Lupin’s goal being to steal a fossil of an angel, along with the heavy implication of involvement from Satan himself, as suggested in promotional art of the film. This same idea was later used in Oshii's Patlabor: The Movie, along with the reveal that the mastermind is theorized to be an angel or diety; in the movie, the mastermind Eiichi Hoba is theorized to be Jehovah, in the episode Mikhail is theorized to be the Archangel Michael.
    • In the preview of the episode, Lupin asks "Is this fiction, or is this fact?" This is a reference to another of Oshii's ideas for The Legend of the Gold of Babylon, where two of the ideas was to have Lupin "steal fiction" or "transcend humanity" by realizing that he is a fictional character.
