"A 7.62mm Mirage" is the 19th episode of Lupin the 3rd Part 5.
Official Synopsis[]
A string of indiscriminate shootings has struck Northern Africa. They're actually a challenge to Lupin from the wealthy Zylberstein. Lupin heads to the valley where his foe awaits, amusing himself with a game of chess. Looking down upon him from both sides of the cliffs are two snipers... Lupin has Daisuke Jigen on his side, but one of the enemy shooters is Mirage, who knows all about Jigen. Who will win the sniping duel?
Long Summary[]
In a valley, Lupin prepares to play a chess game with Zylberstein. Days earlier, he is sitting at a cafe and chatting up a waitress when he is shot at. The waitress is seriously injured. At the hotel room, Jigen watches the news. Lupin enters, and as Jigen asks him what to do about it, he collapses onto his bed, wiped out from their last big job.
In the valley, Zylberstein explains the rules of the game. Whoever makes a move, a sniper behind them, Jigen on Lupin's side and the mysterious assailant on Zylberstein's, will shoot at their target.
A flashback to the hotel room reveals that, once he was refreshed from his nap, Lupin did research on the sniper who injured the waitress, and learned that she might be Mirage, a woman from Jigen's past. He persuades Jigen to join the game with him and Jigen reluctantly agrees. But since Jigen doesn't have his rifle, the odds are against them.
During the game, Zylberstein explains that Mirage's parents were killed in a civil uprising and she has been working for him several times.
In a flashback, Jigen meets a pregnant Mirage and offers to carry her rifle.
During the battle, Jigen fakes injury. Thinking she one, Mirage aims at Lupin but misses and hits Zylberstein.
Mirage reveals that she's the daughter of the woman Jigen knew, and claimed she took the job for Zylberstein to pay her mother's medical bills. Jigen admonishes her and reminds her that she gave up being a sniper to raise her right. He confiscates the daughter's gun.
Later, Lupin and Jigen discuss the issue, and Lupin offers to carry the young Mirage's gun the way Jigen offered to carry her mother's.
