"Introducing Detective Jim Barnett III" is the 17th episode of Lupin the 3rd Part 5.
Official Synopsis[]
"I want you to find out who killed my husband." Three years ago, someone shot Count Maupassant to death. His widow, Isabelle, summons Lupin to her home, with her requesting he investigate her case. There are three suspects, and then... more murders. Along with the old castle being locked down. "I'm Jim Barnett. A detective, hired by the countess." - While the English dub is faithful to the Japanese original with minor changes for lip syncing, there are differences with the character names. Only Pierre Schmidt and Marie kept their names.
- Isabelle Monbossant became Isabelle Monboisont.
- Frédéric Hautrette became Frederik Ottaway.
- Alain Dubois is inconsistent with the subtitles saying Allen Dubois while the end credits say Allan.
- The names also vary between the subtitles used on Crunchyroll and the fan translation, the latter matches the official translation in most cases.
- Both Isabelle and Philippe went from Monbossant to Maunbassant.
- Frédéric Hautrette in the Crunchyroll translation is Frederik Autorett, a transliteration of his name from Japanese. It is noting that the animation uses Frederic Hautrette during his profile at the face recognition scene.
- Alain Dubois became Allan Dubois.

- The English dub had a very minor bit of censorship in the dialogue. In the Japanese original Frédéric Hautrette says to Lupin III "What?! and who the hell are you?" while in the English dub changed this to "What the--and who are you, might I ask?".

- Lupin wears a green jacket in this episode.
- This is one of the few known Lupin animations where none of the other main protagonist of the series appear.
- Jim Barnett was an alias of Arsène Lupin when he was acting as a detective in the novel The Barnett & Co. Agency.
- The original Japanese name for both Count Philippe and Countess Isabelle is a reference to the French author Guy de Maupassant however the spelling is different.
- The plotline is loosely based on Part 2 Episode 15 where three people are sent to a location. The difference being instead of three detectives, they are three suspects.
- Despite what the profile says on Part 5 Episode 1, his name is just listed as Lupin III with no first name.
- Also in Lupin's profile, the loaded gallery lists as "Jesaistout". This is a reference towards the Je sais tout, a French science magazine that featured some of the original versions of Arsène Lupin novellas.
- One of the photos that the Countess gives to Lupin regarding his failures to steal the ring, references the outfit that he wears when running away from the spotlight that has appeared in the 1969 Pilot Film, Lupin the 3rd Part 1 and the movie The Castle of Cagliostro among others.
- Lupin glances at the TAF Journal that featured Philippe Monbassant on the cover. The name is a reference to Telecom Animation Film who are sometimes credited as TAF.
- Lupin reads a book that has some clippings of his Part 1 series adventures including:
- Part 1 Episode 19: Lupin and Jigen disguised as police officers with Fujiko,
- Part 1 Episode 20: Lupin with a masked man,
- Part 1 Episode 4: Lupin getting arrested,
- Part 1 Episode 9: Lupin, Fujiko and Poon,
- Part 1 Episode 14: Jigen and Goemon disguised as chefs while Lupin looks at a cat,
- Part 1 Episode 15: Zenigata happily arrests a hand while Lupin is watching on the roof,
- Part 1 Episode 8: Lupin in a red suit driving away with kites at the back,
- Part 1 Episode 10: Lupin looking with binoculars at a bank note in front of some gold cogs.
- Fujiko's green motorbike was also pictured in the clip book.
- Lupin draws Frederic as Frankenstein's Monster, Allan as Dracula and Pierre as humanesque cat.
- Lupin's disguise is based on his appearance from Part 1 Episode 5.
- In the English dub, Frederic has the same voice as Theodore Hannewald from the video game Lupin the 3rd: Treasure of the Sorcerer King.
- The ending plays the instrumental version of "Fire Treasure". This song is used in the movie The Castle of Cagliostro as the ending theme.
- The eyecatch is a reference to Part 1 episode 11
