Lupin and his team are kidnapped by Greco, a "philanthropist" who swore to rid the world of all criminals. Trapped in a giant underground basement, they're challenged to find a way to get out, but they are informed by Greco that one of them has been secretly brainwashed in order to become his personal puppet assassin. Unable to find out who the puppet is, Lupin and the others end up suspecting each other.

The plotline of Lupin disrupting a scheme involving hypnotizing followers with drugs and using said drug on the following's leader is similar to the first episode of The Woman Called Fujiko Mine, though of course there are lots of differences between the two episodes. TWCFM episode 1 focuses more on Lupin stealing the source of the drug from a cult, and Fujiko fails to use the drug against the cult leader.
The plotline of people betting on whether Lupin or Greco win was later recycled in Part 5 Episode 2 and Part 5 Episode 3 for the Death Day site.
