Notes[]

  • The commentator for the race was Kazuo Tokumitsu who was an announcer for Nippon Television at the time of the episode.
  • From around 18:20 when Goemon Ishikawa XIII and Fujiko Mine are talking at the waterfall until the end of the episode in the Italian dub, the audio quality deteriorated having a harsh metallic echo. While it was unknown whether this happened during the original broadcast, this happens on Italian TV airings and DVD releases due to the poor condition of the master tape over time. For the Blu-ray release, the audio was cleaned up to make it audible.[2]
  • The episode sets viewers up to initially think that the villain is Mister X back yet again, rather than Fantoma. The scheme of destroying Lupin at the finish line is similar to Mister X's original scheme from Part 1, the bandaged figure has a similar silhouette to Mister X and lacks Fantoma's pointed ears, and the artificial eyes which are removed for cleaning are human-like as opposed to Fantoma's all-over green. Both characters have the same voice actor in the original Japanese version, as well as the Italian dub. The gag is somewhat spoilt in the English dub, due to Fantoma being voiced by Tom Wyner rather than Derek Stephen Prince.
  • During the introduction of the race, there were two people dressed up as Goemon Ishikawa I and Nezumi Kozō Jirokichi.
  • The flag symbol is of a hand with a curved index finger. Lupin himself would make this gesture in Part 2 Episode 83 and Part 2 Episode 88. We would also see this gesture reflected in his eye in Part III Episode 13.
