The Sound of the Devil's Bell Calls for Lupin is the 62nd episode of Lupin the 3rd Part 2.
Synopsis[]
Lupin receives a letter from Jigen and Goemon asking for help. He heads for their location, but finds the men of Gemallschaft, this village which isn't to be found on any map, where the churchbells ring, living their lives under the guidance of Sister Lavina. Jigen and Goemon seem to be acting like different people, living a happy domestic lifestyle together in a house in the village. The secret is the sound of the bells. Lavina is using mass hypnosis to turn all of the villagers into perfectly obedient soldiers, whom she then intends to sell. Jigen and Goemon, under her control, close in on Lupin with intent to kill!

Translation Notes[]
In the Japanese original, when the Rover-like bubble carries Lupin and his brainwashed friends back to Gemarschaft, Lupin's mouth moves but he doesn't say anything. The Italian and Castillan dubs are the same. The English dub has Tony Oliver fill this silence with gentle snoring.
Notes[]
- This episode has a different character design for Lupin with larger ears, larger hair, different color palette and has an oval head.
- This is one of the few episodes that Fujiko Mine does not appear in the episode at all.
- The song that Lupin plays is "Neko Funjatta" (I Stepped On the Cat), a traditional song originally known as Flohwalzer and has multiple names around the world.
- The episode is rated 44th according to the staff at TMS. [1]
- The large bubble that pursues Lupin near the end of the episode is a reference to Rover from the British television show The Prisoner.
- The antagonist's name is pronounced Lavina in the Japanese original, but the English dub pronounces it Lavinia.
- The English dub is named after a Culture Club song.
