The Crazy Fantoma Mark III is the 53rd episode of Lupin the 3rd Part 2.
Synopsis[]
Fujiko is taken hostage in exchange for the world's largest ruby, which Lupin recently acquired from the royal house of India. The one making the demand is Fantoma Mark III, grandson of the mysterious European master thief and disguise artist, Fantomas. He intends to use the ruby as the oscillation unit of a laser satellite, with which he will melt the Antarctic ice, thus sinking the world's major cities, and enabling him to conquer the world. Lupin's attitude is, how dare you think of using my ruby and Fujiko for something like that! Can Lupin figure out how to swim in space?

Translation Notes[]
The English dub adds more dialogue in the scene where Lupin and Jigen are quarreling over what to watch on TV.
Notes[]
- The villain is meant to be Fantômas Mark III however due to translating a French name to Japanese, he became Fantoma. This name was used in the Japanese original, Italian dub, Spanish Telecinco dub and the English dub as well as descriptions. The English Geneon subtitles and the synopsis used on Amazon Prime call him Phantoma. While the Discotek DVD release corrected his name in the subtitles as well as the Spanish Animax and the Valencian dubs, it remains in every other version and dub. The name was reverted back to "Fantômas Mk. III" in the 50 Animated Years of Lupin the 3rd book.
- The Spaghetti Western Jigen wants to watch at the beginning of the episode - which depicts a gunfighter dragging a machine gun in a coffin - is a parody of Sergio Corbucci's 1966 film Django, starring Franco Nero. Ironically, Jigen's voice actor Kiyoshi Kobayashi dubbed Nero's voice for several of that film's airings on Japanese television.
- Fantoma's appearance is a parody of Jean Marais' Fantômas, whose look was inspired by early Bond villains.
- In the English dub, at the 19:45 mark, Richard Epcar briefly takes over from Tom Wyner in voicing Fantômas.
