"Her Majesty's Bumbling Inspectors" is the 47th episode of Lupin the 3rd Part 2.
Synopsis[]
Lupin has his eyes on the royal family's Imperial State Crown, but thanks to Scotland Yard's Inspector Dover, stealing it won't be easy. After their initial heist fails, Lupin and his gang plan to take the crown on the day of Princess Mary's royal wedding.

Translation Notes[]
The English dub was rewritten in parts.
In the Japanese original, Lupin mentions taking Fujiko out to a high class restaurant then getting scotch while in the English dub it was changed to him attending a French restaurant then going for some Irish coffee in a pub. Only Inspector Dover mentions French cuisine in the original.
Inspector Dover does speak some form of English in the Japanese original. When he asks a Japanese tourist, he asks "Well, what are you eating?" and when he is looking for water for his slimming pills. Lupin also says "Yes?" to Dover and Zenigata says Imperial State Crown. While the rest of the dialogue was translated into Italian on the Italian Blu-rays, the English was kept in English in the subtitles.
Inspector Pepper mentions that he'll be more famous than The Beatles by catching Lupin while in the English dub, it was changed to "I mean if you know Andrew bloody Lloyd Webber gets a knighthood for whatever the hell he did" and no longer mentions getting a medal from The Queen.
The mention of Princess Mary is reduced in the English dub.

- The writer Banmei Takahashi (also known as Tomoaki Takahashi) is a Japanese film director known for films such as Zen, Hibi and Tattoo Ari. He started out being a pink film director but then expanded to other genres. He was also the co-writer of the episode Part 2 Episode 98.
- The Japanese word "zukkoke" (ズッコケ) is a slang term. The old fan translations used slipshod while the Geneon translation uses bumbling. It can also mean foolish or misguided.
- The English Geneon title is a play on the term clowning around.
- In the French dub, it was changed from London to a fictional city not connected to the UK.
- Inspector Pepper and Inspector Dover are both pop cultural references. Inspector Pepper (ペッパー警部 Peppā Keibu) is a song by Pink Lady while Inspector Dover is loosely based on the Detective Chief Inspector Wilfred Dover books written by Joyce Porter.
- The real-life Royal Family had no Princess Mary in the 1970s, although she does bear a passing resemblance to Princess Anne.
- The use of Big Ben as a plot point would later be used by TMS in their later production Sherlock Hound. In the series' 24th episode, the Clock Tower is burglarized and Sherlock is beseeched to keep that bit buried while the government searches, so as to burke blemishing England's dignity.
