I Can Hear Nessie's Song is the 4th episode of Lupin the 3rd Part 2. The English Geneon title is a reference to the Paul Simon song "50 Ways to Leave Your Lover" .
Synopsis[]
At Loch Ness, Scotland, the mysterious monster Nessie shows itself charmed by Fujiko's singing. Doctor Oz, seeing this, decides to use Fujiko to draw out Nessie so that he can capture it and show it all over the world. Dr. Oz's other motive is to get revenge on the monster for having bit off his leg many years ago. Lupin, Jigen and Goemon seek to help Fujiko and the Loch Ness Monster from Dr. Oz.

Translation Notes[]
The English dub had rewritten dialogue loosely following the plot of the original. Some minor lines were added; in the scene of Lupin going after Fujiko, Jigen protests, complains, and grunts in pain as he's comically tossed up and down in the rowboat; we also hear a sheepish apology from Lupin after he hits Jigen over the head with an oar. In the scene where Goemon saves Lupin and Jigen from the assassin, Jigen remarks "What the hell?" as he and Lupin approach the window. There were also extra lines added in Zenigata's fantasy of putting Lupin to sleep in the suitcase, such as a quip of "Just say no to drugs, kids". Seconds later, after Zenigata is hit by his own tranquilizer dart and the officer asks if he's alright, the dazed Inspector replies "Yes, just fine".
The Scottish folk song that Fujiko sings and Lupin attempts to sing in the Japanese original and the English dub are different. The Japanese original uses a translation of the Robert Burns poem "Coming Through the Rye", while the English dub uses original lyrics.

In the Italian dub, Margot (Fujiko) and Lupin are humming "la-la-la-nena", "la-la-le" or "de-de-da" instead.
During when Dr. Oz mentioned about the offer, it was inflated to 100,000 million pounds rather than a million.
In the French dub, there is dialogue from the British cop instead of Zenigata / Lacogne when the latter is looking for where best to tranquilize Lupin / Edgar.
Mistakes[]
- When Dr. Oz gets a visual of Lupin and Jigen, they're in separate beds. When the two are woken by Goemon slicing off the end of the assassin's gun and sit up, they're sharing a bed.
- When Zenigata says "Lupin, I'll give you what you deserve", his eyebrows disappear.
- When Jigen tries to warn Lupin about the Loch Ness Monster, his neck becomes the color of his shirt for a few frames.
- During Zenigata's fantasy, when the scene cuts to Lupin in the suitcase, the background behind Lupin moves from left to right when it should be moving from right to left.
Notes[]
- The newspaper that Lupin read was from The Japan Times and dated Wednesday October 12, 1976 (or 1970) however it might be a typo or over exposure for 1977. Had it been the correct day from 1977, the newspaper would have been 12 days before airing. Next to the photo of Fujiko has the headline "Singer Given Suspended Sentence for Smoking Pot" mentioning the Japanese singer-song writer Yosui Inoue [1].
- In the English dub, as Zenigata aims a tranquilizer at Lupin, he calls him a "little dogie". This is American slang for a motherless calf in a range herd of cattle.
- Roger Carel, an additional voice in the French dub, played Guerchard, a version of Ganimard, in the 1971 Arsène Lupin series.
- The line "Just say no to drugs, kids" is a very famous campaign used in the 1980s during The War On Drugs.
