Lupin III Wiki

The Treasure of Mecca Wore a Veil is the 149th episode of Lupin the 3rd Part 2.

Synopsis[]

The treasure of the prophet Muhammad is held in the holy city of Mecca. Patra Lawrence, daughter of Lawrence of Arabia, is guarding it as head of the mosque. It's secured in a vault operated by crude oil pressure. So long as the crude oil pressure does not drop, the vault cannot be opened. When Lupin concludes from the arrangement of the Earth's tectonic plates that drilling a new well at the South Pole should do the trick, he finds a trap awaiting him on the other side.

Translation Notes[]

Patora Lawrence was officially translated into English in Lupin III DVD Collection Vol. 44 however her name was translated as Patra Lawrence in the English synopsis and the Italian Blu-ray. [1] In the English Crunchyroll translation, it switches between Patora and Patra.

During the introduction that Koichi Zenigata gave about Daisuke Jigen, the English Crunchyroll translation uses "three-five-seven" while in the fan translation and the Italian Blu-ray, it used the model number M19 as Jigen's gun is a S&W M19 Combat Magnum.

In the Italian dub, Zantetsuken was renamed to Jintaken.

On the English Crunchyroll translation, Lupin's affectionate name of "Fujiko-chan" was dropped to Fujiko. On the Discotek translation, it was translated to the official English affectionate name of "Fujicakes" while the earlier fan translation had used "my dear Fujiko". The latter was also used in the Italian dub with the series changing Fujiko to Margot.

In the Japanese original Jigen curses when he's buried up to his neck in the ground. He doesn't do this in the Spanish or Italian dubs.

Mistakes[]

Translation Errors[]

These mistakes appear in the English Crunchyroll translation that do not appear in the Discotek or the fan translation:

  • Lupin III's introduction by Koichi Zenigata was not polished. Third and Walther were not capitalized, "thirtyeight" rather than using the number 38.
  • 1:55-1:57 - Goemon's sword is listed as Jintaken rather than Zantetsuken. The Italian dub also uses this name meaning that this translation was either based off the original pre-edited script of the Italian dub or directly from TMS in the 1980s.
  • 2:49-2:53 - Keibu was translated as detective rather than inspector that the Italian dub and the Blu-ray uses. Since the character is Inspector Zenigata, the latter should have been used. The fan translation omits this detail.
  • 20:16-20:20 - The dialogue was not translated. The fan translation also did not translate Lupin's question.

Notes[]

  • The cows are stamped JAL, a reference to Japan Airlines.
  • The real TE Lawrence was not known to have had children, but did have a short-lived marriage with a young Muslim woman.
