Translation Notes[]
The English dub had changed the drug references from cocaine and LSD to acid and Psilocybin (magic mushrooms), this is because cocaine is not classed as an hallucinogen. Lupin also accused Jigen of getting high on cannabis while he and Goemon have been tending to Fujiko.
The English dub adds a little more dialogue for Zenigata as he's doing a security around of Heath's house. In the Japanese original, he remarks that it's a full moon out. In the English dub, he wonders to himself why Fujiko would marry Heath and calls Heath a "billionaire bad boy".
In the Japanese original, Heath doesn't say anything when he's attacked by the hummingbirds. In the English dub, he screams for help.
In the English dub, after Lupin gags at the jiryu-toh, he moans "Oh, you gotta be kidding me" as he covers his mouth.
The script of the English dub takes the usual artistic liberties. In the Japanese original, after Lupin almost falls into a spike trap, he apologizes to the skeleton at the bottom like he had just walked in on someone in the bathroom; in the manga chapter he says, "Looks like this room is taken". In the English dub he nicknames the skeleton "Indiana Bones".
The French dub changed Howard Heath to Hans Hart.
Censorship[]
French[]
On the French TV airings and the DVDs, the beginning where the map of Jamaica is displayed was cut due to Japanese text.
Notes[]
- The traps in the ancient temple, with the exception of the stone hammer, the rock fall and the quicksand, are taken from Lupin III New Adventures Chapter 29.
- The Indiana Jones films share quite a few similarities with this episode, right down to the villain bearing a strong resemblance to the antagonist of Temple of Doom. Currently it is unknown whether Steven Spielberg had watched the Lupin III series for his inspiration of his movies despite rumors of watching The Castle of Cagliostro.
- Lupin breaks the fourth wall when he got off the plane by saying "Title" in both the Japanese original and the English dub. Due to that the Italian dub moves the title card to the beginning of the episode, Lupin's line was replaced.
- Due to copyright reasons regarding the Arsène Lupin name, in the French and Italian dubs the character was renamed to Edgar I and Lord Hamilton with the latter claiming to be English. The English dub also doesn't reference Arsène Lupin by name despite the fact that the copyright had expired by the time of the dub.
- While pointing out the phony witch doctor after returning the ruby in the English dub, Lupin makes a reference to The Wizard of Oz.
