Censorship[]

Italian[]

  • In the Italian airing, the guillotine scene was replaced by a freeze frame of Lupin and Fujiko.

Translation Notes[]

Chairman Jisboi Doteaenu's name is difficult to translate as his surname can be German despite being a French character and there is no such French name. There is a town in Germany called Dotternhausen when translated into Japanese is ドターンハウゼン (Dotānhauzen) while his name in Japanese is ジスボーイ・ドターン (Jisubōi Dotān). His first name can also be translated as This Boy. An old English fan translation had used Gerard Dean, the Italian Blu-ray had used Gismond Dotain while his name could also be translated as Gisboy Dottern. His official English name was given in Lupin III DVD Collection Vol. 37.[1] The English Crunchyroll translation had used Jisboy Totan, Jisboy Dotan and Jisbonu Doteaenu.

Despite that the episode was not translated into English, there are differences between the Japanese original and the Italian dub.

The exchange between Zenigata and Doteaenu was altered as in the Japanese original, Doteaenu gets angry when his name was mispronounced as Zenigata as to say Doteaenu's name and his own name in a nasal tone while this was rewritten in the Italian dub and Doteaenu makes a remark that Zenigata was Japanese.

Choren Pao Tong Domentampin had become Scccomatto Arrocco (Checkmate Rook) on the Italian Blu-ray subtitles due to the former are Mahjong terms with the last three letters also being part of Lupin's name while the latter is referring to chess. The English Crunchyroll translation changed this to the nonsensical name Kuren Hortonnude Sillydumb.

In the cell, Lupin says Fujiko-chan, this was changed to just Fujiko in all known translations and Margot in the Italian dub with the English Crunchyroll saying Fujikooo. It is unknown whether the Discotek translation used Fujicakes.

Mistakes[]

Translation Errors[]

These mistakes appear in the English Crunchyroll translation:

  • 3:30 - Jisboi Doteaenu saying "Oui" was skipped in the subtitles used on the English Crunchyroll translation and the fan translation. It is unknown whether the Discotek translation had included this however this was translated as "Bene" in the Italian Blu-ray.
  • 3:31 - Zenigata doesn't mention that he comes from Japan unlike the fan translation or the Italian Blu-ray, it is unknown whether the Discotek translation fixed this.
  • 4:13 - Oui was written as Iui.
  • 8:08 - Tottsan (Pops) was mistranslated as "Hey, buddy!". This mistake was also in Part III Episode 14.
  • 8:43 - Lupin calling the guard an idiot was skipped.

Notes[]

  • Zenigata name drops the singer Shinichi Mori when trying to imitate Jisboi Doteaenu's stressed vowels. His name was also mentioned in the Italian dub but his first name was not included.
  • The character design of Mister Habsburg (the disguise of Jisboi Doteaenu) was later reused as Salmon Whitney.
