Italian[]

While it is unknown whether the original airing had these scenes, there are two missing scenes in the Italian dub. These were cut in not just the TV airings but also VHS and DVD releases. It is unknown whether it is lost due to the cut or were never dubbed. All of these scenes were cut because they imply that Lupin has drunk excessive amounts of alcohol, something that wasn't a problem before in Italian releases.

  • From 11:33 to 11:59, the scene of Kira explaining that he can't eat steak due to his dentures and that he is a ghost and Lupin laughing it off was cut. The missing lines are:
Lupin: Steak will get that blood pumping.
Kira: I've mentioned this before but my dentures are bad, I must avoid tough food. Besides my hands are cold because... I am a ghost.
(Lupin laughs)
Lupin (while laughing): A ghost, he says! Kiriwiry (Kiruccio on the Italian Blu-ray), you sure like jokes!
  • After the second eye catch from 12:32 to 12:38, a scene of Lupin talking in his sleep is cut. The missing line is:
Lupin (snoring): Can't drink anymore.

The dub also apparently cuts Lupin's drunken hiccup in an earlier scene.

The Spanish dub also cuts Lupin's hiccup, but not the scene of him passed out on the couch.

In the Italian Blu-ray, the scenes were restored using what appears to be using the dub script. Since the voice actors passed away, unknown voice actors voiced the missing lines doing impressions of Lupin and Kira with a difference in audio quality. While Lupin is a close match, Kira sounds different. This means that it is one of the few times that Roberto Del Giudice doesn't voice Lupin in Part 2 in Italian.

Translation Notes[]

The Spanish dub adds extra dialogue from Kira after he tells Lupin he's a ghost.

In the Spanish dub, Lupin calls Fujiko an idiot after she points out the gas station. He doesn't do that in most other versions.

Notes[]

  • Chushingura (忠臣蔵, The Treasury of Loyal Retainers) was based on an event relating to the master of ceremonies Yoshinaka Kira, the seppuku of Asano Naganori who had planned to kill Kira and the 47 Ronin who went to Kira's mansion to kill him. This then became fictionalized and the story is told in puppet plays, kabuki plays and films with earlier versions changing the characters and the time period. Due to the break in event apparently happening in December, the story is told during the month and the episode was also aired in December.
