Lupin III Wiki

The Masterpiece Theft Ultra Operation is the 100th episode of Lupin the 3rd Part 2.

Synopsis[]

The president of France has run up a ridiculous tab with Maxim of Paris, and orders the Louvre Museum curator to sell a painting to cover his bill. But the curator doesn't want to let it go, and takes the painting out of the museum. It's a painting that Lupin's grandfather had stolen from the Louvre back in the day, and it's just a replica. Pandemonium follows when art connoisseurs and criminals find out what's going on...

Censorship[]

International[]

In the International masters that appeared on the Italian DVDs, all of the alcohol text was removed including Goemon's bottles and Jigen's Moontory bottles.

Italian[]

All references to Alibaba Naibaba's unhealthy crush on Zenigata are downplayed and rewritten so that he's just an incredibly clingy friend. It doesn't manage to completely censor all scenes of him admiring the Inspector's rear, though. This also rewrites Lupin's breaking the fourth wall and him saying "It's all right to have a guy too...".

Outside of Naibaba's preference, the following was changed in TV airings:

  • The freeze frame at the harbor was to remove Japanese text saying Marseilles.
  • The scene when Naibaba attempts to grope Zenigata is replaced by a freeze frame of Zenigata's back to the above reason.

Spanish[]

Find out whether Naibaba's preference was changed in the Telecinco dub. It is highly likely that the Animax dub keeps the same as the original.

Mistakes[]

  • When Zenigata starts to run away from an extremely lustful Naibaba, his hand is colored the same as his coat for a frame.

Notes[]

  • This was one of the four fan suggested episodes to celebrate 100 episodes of the series and was selected out of 5000 entries, Takehiko Mokuno came up with the idea while Yoshio Urasawa wrote the episode. Lupin breaks the fourth wall and says "Thank you for giving me this idea" and kisses to the screen then Zenigata was disappointed that the idea came from a guy. In the Italian dub, the dialogue was rewritten as Lupin gives a kiss to Fujiko and Zenigata saying "You're under arrest" as it would have been lost in translation.
  • In the Italian dub due to copyright reasons regarding the Arsène Lupin name, the painting was no longer done by him.
  • This episode presents an alternate history of Zenigata's family. In The Mystery of Mamo, it was revealed that Zenigata had a daughter called Toshiko. Zenigata mentions to Naibaba that he has no wife, son or daughter. It's possible that he's divorced and any children he has are estranged.
  • When Jigen gives the bottles of whisky on the train, the bottles say "Moontory". It is a reference to the Japanese brewery Suntory. This only appears in the Japanese original and the Italian TV airings.
  • The writing on the forged painting says, "Later, I leave the rest to you, Lupin".
