Differences Between Manga & Anime[]

  • Kamaitachi and Okosama Ranchi were added into the episode.
  • The scenes where Lupin III and Daisuke Jigen plant the dynamite; when Lupin had seen the doctor regarding his burn; the mentions that someone got amnesia six months after an operation; the crime boss died from a heart attack with a woman witnessing the scene and the body going to be cremated were faithfully adapted into the episode.
  • Dr. Ochanomizu and the crime boss got amnesia while in the episode it was just Kamaitachi.
  • Instead of Kamaitachi getting amnesia, it was Fujiko Mine who claims to be Dr. Ochanomizu.
  • Tatsu Mandala had a different character design.
  • Lupin III tries to sleep with Fujiko hoping to get her memory back.
  • The fake Jigen was Okosama Ranchi rather than a nameless henchman.
  • The scenes where Lupin III meets with his crew; Lupin discovering that Koichi Zenigata had arrived at the scene; the body of the fake Jigen being dumped and the plan were faithfully adapted into the episode.
  • The plan however was expanded in the episode showing Lupin, Jigen and Gan-Tetsu stealing the diamond from the corpse.
  • Tatsu was not at the meeting with Lupin, Gan-Tetsu Hammer and "Jigen". Sandayu takes his place. Fujiko also attends the meeting who shoots "Jigen" instead of Tatsu.
  • Instead of Fujiko double crossing Lupin when they come to deliver "Jigen", a character called Sangi takes the role.
  • Lupin had successfully stolen the diamond while in the episode, Tatsu betrayed Lupin and Fujiko ended up with the diamond.

Mistakes[]

  • Shortly after Lupin III and Daisuke Jigen remove the blanket from the golden casket, one of the hearse drivers moves his lips without any sound coming out. While this happens in the Japanese original, this still happens to smaller degree in the Italian 1979 dub as the mouth flaps starts before the speech. This does not happen in the 1987 Italian dub.
  • In the Spanish Animax dub, when Jigen says "And the surgeon went missing. So then... Fujiko Mine is..." it is not dubbed as it switches to Japanese. This is not due to censorship but rather a missing dubbed cue.

Censorship[]

Italian[]

In the Italian 1987 redub, there were a few scenes that were cut out:

  • Some parts where Fujiko Mine and Lupin III are left alone before being interrupted by Tatsu Mandala.[2] This includes Lupin getting slapped by Fujiko and Jigen's response.
  • After the doctor was being murdered, the scene where the body coming back into the room, a line from Kamaitachi and Tatsu's response were cut.
  • The scene of Tatsu’s death was replaced by a freeze frame of Daisuke Jigen.
  • The ending where Fujiko bathes with the diamond.

Notes[]

  • This episode uses the simple typewriter title card and is the last episode of the franchise to do so.
  • Originally this was going to be the 3rd episode but was moved down to episode 6 with Part 1 Episode 3 (Episode 5 in the original plan) taking place in terms of airing. The title was originally called "Useless Mercy!" (ナサケ御無用!, Nasake gomuyō!) same as Lupin III Chapter 18. [3]
  • In the original synopsis, Fujiko Mine was a nameless woman who had amnesia.[3]
