"Farewell My Beloved Witch" is the 3rd episode of Lupin the 3rd Part 1.
Synopsis[]
A boat collision ruins Lupin III and Fujiko Mine's quiet boating expedition. They discover a woman named Linda in the other boat just as gunmen on a larger boat attack them. After avoiding the gunboat, they learn that Linda is the assistant to a world-renowned expert on nuclear fission. She lived on an island with Dr. Heinlein who also housed the "Kirein Killers" ("Killers of the Sea"). Lupin III and Daisuke Jigen try to storm the island to save the Doctor and discover Linda's mysterious secret.

Differences Between the Manga and Anime[]
- In the anime, Lupin laments about how a good woman died for a nuclear warhead. In Lupin III Chapter 49, he gushes about how "delightfully phallic" the warhead is.
- In the manga, Fujiko had a brother. However, since this is one of the many Fujiko Mines populating the world, this is dropped in the anime.
- In the manga, Lupin was the one who shot down the plane Fujiko was in. In the anime, it was Stern who shot down the plane.
Censorship[]
Italian / Spanish[]
In the 1987 Italian redub, some scenes where Lupin and Fujiko are attacked in a grove have been cut.[2] This also applies to the Spanish Telecinco dub since they used the same masters.
Myths[]
- This episode was skipped on Japanese VHS releases due to its poor animation. - TVTropes
The episode appears in all known Japanese VHS and Laserdisc releases whether it was released by Emotion or VAP.
Mistakes[]
At 21:09 Lupin's right flipper isn't painted in.
Trivia[]
- Stern bears a remarkably close resemblance to Jigen, right down to the chin curtain beard. It's not known if this was intentional.
- This episode is the first of several in the franchise to convey an anti-war message.
- One of the first instances in the anime franchise of Lupin rushing to the aid of a beautiful woman.
- The scene where Lupin grieves for Linda is the first time in the anime franchise where he legitimately sheds tears over someone or something.
- When Lupin sits in the rocket, shivering, he says "I'm scared", but it isn't subtitled.
