"Lupin Caught in a Trap" is the 17th episode of Lupin the 3rd Part 1.
Synopsis[]
Fujiko Mine invites Lupin III and the gang to a famous night club owned by the sexy Ginko Hoshikage. Only Goemon Ishikawa XIII refuses. This was a wise move as Ginko places timebombs on Fujiko, Jigen, and Lupin. They must cough up 3,000,000,000 JPY within twenty-four hours if they want the bombs removed.
With the clock ticking, can Lupin come up with a scheme to get that much money?

Notes[]
- The chracter design of Fujiko Mine changes between her original design, her redesign and her redesign with the hairlines of the original hinting that the episode was in production before Episode 16 but finished after.
- Daisuke Jigen is out of character at the beginning of the episode as he is shown to be drunk with Ginko unaware that she is setting him up. In later series, Jigen distrusts women unless he had a good reason to be with someone and would have pulled out with Goemon Ishikawa XIII.
- The picture quality of the episode declines from 9:46 onwards featuring blur, lighting issues, shaky camera at selected scenes and a loss of detail (like DVNR).
- This happens on all known sources of the episode (VHS, DVD, Blu-ray, Streaming services) meaning that TMS no longer has the original master of the second part. It is also rare considering the archives of the series are mostly intact. TMS does have a positive master and that was used since 1987 for the Italian redub and the VHS releases.
- The positive master for the second part is also in bad condition suffering from damage. For the VAP Japanese Blu-ray that was later used for the Discotek DVD box set, the Italian Blu-ray as well as streaming services outside of Netflix, this was edited by replacing or removing the damaged frames. There is also minor cropping at the top and the bottom of the picture.
- This also affects the original sound tape as well where in the Italian 1987 redub (and likely also the later made Spanish and French dubs), the sound quality declines when Jigen and Lupin are making the money.[2]
- The English synopsis calls Ginko Hoshikage, "Hoshikage Rinko" for unknown reasons.
- This is the last appearance of the Mercedes Benz SSK in the series as the Lupin gang either drive the Fiat 500, Citroen 2CV, Mini Cooper or another vehicle. The next appearance is in Lupin the 3rd Part 2. It also reappeared in the movie The Mystery of Mamo, in the TV Special $1 Money Wars, Lupin III vs. Detective Conan, and in Part 5 Episode 23.
- The printed money hidden in plain sight could be a reference to the Arsène Lupin story The Golden Triangle.
