Differences Between Manga & Anime[]
- The episode was loosely adapted from the Lupin III Chapter 40 however the only scenes that were adapted were Fujiko Mine looking at the jewellery and Lupin III using a vacuum to breaking into the glass to get the jewels while having a tanker truck outside. The manga chapter involved a person that Lupin sees that isn't there.
Mistakes[]
- When the tanker is first shown, it says CAS. This is corrected to GAS in later scenes.
- When the cabin explodes, Zenigata's hat and his trench coat are in yellow instead of having a black hat with an orange trench coat.
- Beaver, who should still be stuck to the floor, vanishes when Lupin runs across the shop floor.
Notes[]
- This is the first episode where Lupin drives a Fiat 500, but it's a white one.
- When Lupin III gets a flat tire on the Fiat 500, the tire says "OH-TIYA". This is a reference to Oh! Production, the animation studio who partly animated the episode. It is also a partial romaji mistake as タイヤ would be taiya.
- Lupin drives past a pink Citroen 2CV that was owned by Hayao Miyazaki. This car later appeared in Episode 23 and more famously in the movie The Castle of Cagliostro.
- Fujiko Mine had a character redesign having shorter hair without any highlights and wearing more feminine clothes that was used in later episodes of the series, outside of Episode 17 where it kept switching between the older and the newer design. While it did appear in Episode 14, it is argued that she was in disguise.
- When the episode was originally aired, the opening had a variation of "Lupin the Third Theme Song 3" where the narrator was Gorō Naya. However, later broadcasts as well as home video releases had replaced it with a different take and some airings had either used the opening from Episode 17 onwards or the first opening such as Netflix. Yu Hayakawa who had worked on Lupin the Third first tv. DVD Box for VAP had done research about the original opening as he discovered that Ryoichi Sakai had a tape of the original version as proof of its existence. Hayakawa considered a theory that the original take was considered "Not Good" by Tokyo Movie with a rush to broadcast the episode. He wanted to include it on the box set however the original opening video that was used in 1972 is lost. The original version was also featured on Lupin the Third Original Soundtrack Drama-hen.[1] Both versions appeared on the LUPIN THE 3RD THE 1st SERIES ANTHOLOGY soundtrack. [2]
