Differences Between Manga & Anime[]
- The Elder's son got replaced by Hayate.
- The Elder is more friendlier and is willing to help Lupin in the chapter to the point of refunding him the money while in the episode, he was a jerk and got the statues for himself.
- Koichi Zenigata does not appear in the episode.
- Fujiko's sister Michi was replaced with Daisuke Jigen. This also meant that in the cave, Lupin III and Fujiko spent time together then Daisuke Jigen arrives in the episode. The scene where Lupin sleeps with Fujiko and Michi was also dropped.
- A majority of the plotline was changed as while the goal of the Sister Statues remained the same, there were additions such as:
- Hayate torturing the Elder
- Hayate and the organization that he was part of took over a village with Lupin and Jigen eventually destroying it
- Hayate wanting the statues while the Elder's son wanting to protect them from others.
- The ending was changed as Lupin does not return to the cave.
Mistakes[]
- When Hayate grabs the axe, on the shelf there are two statues. This is a continuity mistake as Fujiko had grabbed one of the statues earlier.
Notes[]
- This was the last episode that Masaaki Ōsumi directed before A Production (Hayao Miyazaki & Isao Takahata) fully took over the series with their changes to make it more family friendly.
