Minnesota Fats was a character who appeared in Lupin the Third Part II and is based on the fictional character of the same name.
Character History[]
Minnesota Fats was playing at a local billiard hall and won the game, he reminded someone that he is the Number 1 pool player and got $5000. Don Hagero phoned up Fats and told him in person that he needs to take out Daisuke Jigen, who is considered Number 1 marksman. If he does the job, he will receive $200,000 but Fats wants $300,000 on that it was agreed. Fats believes that he should be the only person to be No.1.
He did some research having three books about the subject and discovered that Jigen uses his hat to aim. He burned all of his hats and phoned Lupin to let him know that he was staying at the Royal Hotel waiting for Jigen.
Lupin meets with Fats who was casually playing pool and considered it honorable that Lupin knows his name yet Lupin calls him "the world's biggest backstabber". While Lupin challenged Fats to take him on, Fats rejects for calling him an amateur. After avoiding fire, Fats unscrews his cue to reveal a gun that he made himself and gets an over confident Lupin to run away from his trick shot. Eventually the bullet hit Lupin in the swimming pool. Goemon challenges Fats but leaves a note saying "Send my regards to Jigen!"
In an unknown town, Jigen ends up in the street with Fats who prepares his duel. A representative of a company then appears as a witness and the duel beings. Fats fires his trick shot and gets annoyed that Jigen ran away. They chase each other, Fats was persistent as he drives a car, flying and firing from a fighter jet as well as driving a snowmobile.
They ended up in the mountains and Fats fire his trick shot at the snow causing Jigen to fire back his six rounds and missing. With confidence, Fats fires Jigen at his right shoulder but eventually he was killed in an avalanche.

Minnesota Fats is a fictional pool hustler who appeared in the novel "The Hustler" written by Walter Tevis. Later this adapted into a film and was played by Jackie Gleason, Rudolf Wanderone adopted this name who had achieve success despite not winning a tournament. The version of Minnesota Fats that appeared in Lupin was based on Jackie Gleason.
In the book and the film, he was considered the greatest pool player however he was finally beaten by "Fast Eddie".
Relating to this legend, Data East localized Side Pocket 2 in the US as Minnesota Fats: Pool Legend and received versions on the Sega Genesis and the Sega Saturn. The Sega Saturn version featured live action clips of someone portraying as Minnesota Fats, both in the Japanese and US versions.
