Marguerite Tiffany is a character from Lupin the Third Part II.
Character History[]
Marguerite is the owner of the jewellery store Tiffany's and is also a TV broadcaster for the DDT Network.
While Lupin III, Daisuke Jigen and Fujiko Mine were looking outside the store noticing its security and Lupin sarcastically saying that he will steal the diamond collection, Marguerite suggested to him that he should give it a try and have a look inside. They entered the store and looked at the jewellery, she says that the store has never been broken into and if Lupin succeeds, it would go down in history. As she put a cigarette in her mouth, Lupin lit it for her while asking who she was while she explained, she suggested to call her Maggie while she was smoking.
She went into an office and the boss was surprised that Lupin was going to break into Tiffany's at Christmas, she says that it would be broadcast live during her show as it would get high ratings. The boss was worried that it is highly public and they should not be broadcasting a live robbery however she mentions that it is her store and with a wave, she says that there shouldn't be a problem. The boss relunctantly agreed thinking that it might be a prank and she winked after getting the go ahead.
When the press came to a run down hotel where Lupin and Jigen stayed at, Marguerite says that on Christmas Eve Lupin and his friends will break into Tiffany's. Lupin was annoyed and though that he had to kidding as he came to New York to enjoy Christmas with Jigen calmly agreeing. She decided that it would be aired live as a Christmas Special but Lupin was firmly not interested at all and wanted to know who came up with the idea, she did and winked. Lupin was surprised and Marguerite took him and Jigen in a Rolls Royce to the Plaza Hotel.
They arrived and she wanted Lupin to have the first class treatment to match his taste and wanted them to go in. While Lupin was not sure, Jigen agreed and went inside. She took Lupin and Fujiko to the suite, Fujiko was impressed thinking that even Humphrey Bogart stayed in this room even if she was miffed that he wasn't her type. Marguerite gave them a briefcase of $100,000 to cover their expenses and went straight to the table thinking that it might not be enough. Lupin smiles and says that he is not stealing then she took her coat and her scarf off to get his attention. While Lupin made a blank face, she says that she went through a lot of trouble and saying that he should have a look. He sat on the armchair as she opened the briefcase and Lupin smiled has he noticed a necklace, she asked for his opinion and he says that it is impressive as he was focused on the necklace and not the money. While making his perverted grin, Fujiko pulled his ear as they were talking about Lupin's attraction towards her breasts. Marguerite got out a check for his appearance on the show and if he succeeds in stealing the jewellery, he is welcome to put any amount including 10 billion dollars. Lupin grabs the cheque and rips it up as he wanted to have fun, Jigen at the bar mentioned that they would have ended up in prison if they didn't succeed.
Lupin dashed off as he had a flight to Panama with Jigen following him, she panicked and wanted him to stay but the door was closed. Fujiko tells her that they have gone fishing, she then sat on the couch and thought that rich people are strange thinking that they would obey if they are shown a ton of money. She closed the briefcase and sulked that Fujiko saying the first televised robbery is down the drain with her agreeing. Fujiko wanted to stay in the hotel for a few days however Marguerite didn't as she would think that Fujiko would be mistaken for a maid (slut in the English dub) and walked away with the briefcase out of the hotel room.
Koichi Zenigata had went to Tiffany's and he was upset that the robbery was cancelled and called it a shame, then was annoyed as it would have been a perfect opportunity to arrest Lupin. She looked out of the window and sees Fujiko, Zenigata ran towards the window to have a look as she was walking in. Marguerite suggested to Zenigata that he should stay in New York for Christmas as she went to the counter where Fujiko looks at the jewellery. She welcomed Fujiko saying that she stayed in the Plaza Hotel, Fujiko came in as she wanted jewels and in a sarcastic way mention that she won't be mistaken for a maid. After thanking her, she got out a diamond for Fujiko mentioning that she came to New York practising writing checks and wants the diamond. The price is $100,000 and Fujiko thinks it is a "bargain" writing a check for $10,000 giving it to her, Marguerite noticed that she forgot to put a zero and says that it is tricky writing checks until you are used it to, she encouraged Fujiko to shop around practising and gave her the cheque back. Fujiko apologized and wrote another check, she also managed to get another cheque of the same amount to give to Lupin.
Outside the store, Marguerite gave out a televised speech that a robbery will take place tonight as a Christmas present for the viewers. Three TV cameras were planted around the store on cranes in 5th Avenue and four cameras inside the store. She says when the bell rings in St. Patrick's Cathedal rings at midnight, all the cameras turn themselves on. Lupin walked towards the store and she asks him on camera however he went in along with Jigen and Goemon Ishikawa XIII. A laser grid was set up in the store and an alarm will ring if anyone was on the floor.
As the cameras went away and they left the store, Goemon mentioned that it is impregnable unable to stand a foot in there and she agreed, she also mentioned that they are destined to get arrested by Zenigata. Fujiko stopped in a pink Rolls Royce and Lupin wondered about the car as she developed a spending problem, she told him good luck and drove off. Lupin tried to go after her but he was furious as they had to go in the subways and walk.
The Lupin gang had successfully stole from the store as the shop floor had moved to do the task. Marguerite was shocked and couldn't believe what happened, she walked towards the small counter and picked up a Christmas card that said: "Merry Xmas The jewels are in the hand of the Goddess of Liberty. Lupin III". She sulked as she had lost and turned her head as Zenigata opened the door. He was also surprised that he did the heist and she gave him the card, Zenigata dashed out of the store ready to arrest Lupin.
Lupin had put the jewellery on the Statue of Liberty and it is unknown what happened to Marguerite.
Notes[]
- In real life, there was no Marguerite Tiffany who owned Tiffany's (aka Tiffany and Co). It was actually first started by Charles Lewis Tiffany and had various owners since, at the time of the episode it was owned by Avon.
