Lupin Zero (ルパンゼロ[1] Rupan Zero?) is a 2022 6-episode[2] ONA. Set in the 1960s, it stars a young Lupin III. The series is loosely based on the "Confession Series" chapters from the original manga by Monkey Punch.[3]
The series is streaming on HIDIVE, licensed by Sentai Filmworks for English audiences.[4]
Synopsis[]
How did this young boy become notorious gentleman thief "Lupin III"? Despite his longstanding status and notoriety as the world’s greatest thief, there was once a time when even Lupin III was young and inexperienced.
Loosely based on young Lupin III from the original manga, Lupin Zero will tell a nostalgic, yet brand new original story, finally lifting the veil cast upon Lupin III's humble beginnings. Set during the era in which the original series was first published, the anime depicts Young Lupin III running around the streets of 1960's Japan during the country's economic boom.
A young boy climbs the staircase to villainhood. What was he thinking and what steps did he take? This is the untold origin story of the world's greatest thief.[5]

The first episode of the ONA reportedly premiered in November 18 2022 at Anime NYC, and it was shortly announced that the series will start streaming on December 16 2022.[4]

The music is composed by Yoshihide Ōtomo. As of November 2022, it was revealed that rearrangements of Takeo Yamashita's compositions from Lupin the 3rd Part 1 will be used.[3]
The main theme of the ONA is "Afro "Lupin '68"". The official soundtrack was divided into two volumes, with the first volume releasing on December 25, 2022 and the second volume releasing on January 13, 2023 respectively.[6]

- The series suggests Lupin was born in the 1950s. Part 2 Episode 50 and Part 2 Episode 54 have flashbacks respectively set in 1968 and 1973, when Lupin would be in his teens and early 20s, as evidence.
- Yoshito Yasuhara (Lupin I) replaced the late Yasuo Yamada in a number of his roles, including Kermit the Frog, and Bernard in the 2000 dub of 'The Rescuers'.
