Lupin III Wiki

Lupin III Chapter 10 is titled "Killing Lupin".

Synopsis[]

Inspector Zenigata comes in with the chief of police to introduce Daisuke Jigen, who is dozing beneath a newspaper. When awoken by Zenigata, he boldly claims to the chief that he is the man who can catch Lupin III, and hands him his contract.

Later in the day, Zenigata, Jigen and the police surround what appears to be the covered carcass of Lupin's third victim. When asked if he wants to help, Jigen requests two million Yen as his final offer.

Jigen gets out of the crime scene and hails a taxicab. While on the way to Sakurada Gate, the taxicab driver asks Jigen if he knew who murdered the victim, much to Jigen's annoyance. Out of nowhere, the taxi makes a sharp swerve, which angers Jigen as he shouts at the driver, who only notices a note on his passenger's hat. Jigen rips the note apart, already recognizing who the driver is; when asked why he didn't read it, he says he already knew what the note's contents were gonna be ("Dear Jigen... blah, blah, blah, sincerely, Lupin III...") and reveals he knew the driver was Lupin all along.

Jigen points a gun at Lupin, but not before telling him to just drive to Sakurada Gate. He boasts about how he knew everything about Lupin and how he can lodge a bullet in his head. Lupin silently reaches for something under the car, activating a mechanism that ejects him out and making the taxicab drive off a cliff. Lupin looks down at the crashed car and laughs at Jigen's words, but is surprised to see Jigen himself alive and well when he turns around.

Lupin tries to shoot Jigen, but Jigen keeps throwing rocks at his face. Wanting an audience to watch him kill Lupin, he handcuffs him while he's still on the ground. However, Lupin quickly breaks free and runs away from him, causing Jigen to chase after him, but he gives up when it looks like Lupin is out of sight; in reality, he's hiding in a tight hole in the ground.

Jigen retreats to a bedroom in disappointment. As he's about to go to bed, he gets pushed off by Fujiko Mine, who is pointing a gun at him. Fujiko seduces him, and in classic Monkey Punch fashion, they both spend the night having rough sex.

Lupin and Fujiko are surrounded by cops the next day as they both gather on a construction site. Fujiko tells him that Jigen is nowhere around because of what happened the previous night. Surprisingly, Jigen comes out of nowhere behind them with bandages on his nose and the gun Fujiko pointed at him before. Lupin kicks him in the face, dropping the gun Jigen held. He grabs the gun and points it at Jigen, and pulls the trigger. However, it shoots at Lupin instead. Lupin falls off the construction site unconscious.

Later, Fujiko makes out with Jigen. She tells him that the gun was set to shoot backwards. They both hear a knocking on the door and Inspector Zenigata comes in, demanding where Lupin is. Fujiko tells him that Jigen "had went out" and Zenigata goes away. The chapter ends with a half-naked Jigen, grabbing an edge of the window outside the building.

Notes[]

  • When collected in tankōbon (単行本?) volumes, it became the 13th chapter.
  • This is the first appearance of Daisuke Jigen however in the volumes releases chronology, he first appears in "Lupin III Chapter 14".
  • In this chapter Jigen is introduced as a hitman to take out Lupin III compared to future chapters, where Jigen turns out to be Lupin's childhood friend as well as a hitman, and anime adaptations where Jigen is Lupin's partner in crime and that they met either when Lupin saved Jigen from trouble or that they met while going after the same Alexandrite. A hint from Zenigata though believes Jigen in the chapter is actually Lupin in disguise.
