Laura Jaws is a character of Lupin the 3rd Part 2.
History[]
Laura was the wife of political fixer and billionaire Pomade Jaws. In the past, she took her wheelchair-bound husband to the safe. Al Cabane stole the safe that contained documents detailing scandalous actions of politicians from the world over. He discovered that the safe could only be opened with her voice as Pomade planted a bomb inside her heart. Pomade had done so because if his voice opened the safe first, it would deactivate the explosion. His reason was that she wouldn't betray him even though he didn't trust her.
As she took her husband into the park, he was knocked down by a speeding truck planted by Al Cabane. She became a voiceless widow, and decided that only Lupin the Third could help her.
Disguised in a suit and mask, she sneaks into Koichi Zenigata's apartment and places a note on one of his beer cans, reading "Where is Lupin the Third?". When Zenigata emerges into his living room and sees the note on the can, she points a gun at his head. She passes him a note saying "If you don't fess up, I'll kill you!" Zenigata kicks the can to distract her and throws her to the floor. He unmasks her, realizing she's a woman.
Cabane's men try to break into Zenigata's apartment to get Laura, so the two escape. Zenigata throws a rope from the window of the hotel, scales down it with Laura and cycles away.
Zenigata arrives at Lupin III's hideout and crashes through the front door. He tells Lupin that the New York mafia were after them and asks for his help. Lupin agrees and they escape in a helicopter.
In the helicopter, Zenigata introduces Lupin to Laura as his friend. He threatens to arrest Lupin unless if he helps him and Laura.
At another hideout, Zenigata briefs Lupin on the situation, and tells him that the bomb to open the safe was planted in her heart. If Laura's voice was recorded, she would explode regardless of location. Goemon sees one of Cabane's men trying to record Laura's voice with a microphone and pulls it, causing the mobster fall from the chimney. Lupin crushes the tape recorder and agrees to help Zenigata. He takes the time to tease Pops about his crush on Laura.
After Lupin and his friends are captured, Laura overhears a conversation between Fujiko Mine and Zenigata. She tells him that Lupin is dead and that a gang will come for them any minute. Fortunately, Zenigata had been pursuing Fujiko long enough to know her greatest fears. Hers happens to be frogs. Zenigata escapes the hotel with Laura and they flee through the sewer.
Zenigata takes Laura to the woods and set up camp. As Zenigata dozes by the fire, he notices that Laura is shivering and gives her his trench coat. He claims he wants to check things out, but he was really going over to the hillside to brood, and to muse on the situation. He loudly declares his love for Laura.
The two of them walk through a blustery grass field and up a mountain. Zenigata offers his hand to her to help her climb, but she slips and some debris breaks away. As she tumbles down the mountain, Zenigata races to her rescue.
Zenigata takes her to a barn for shelter. As Laura wakes up, she utters the words, "Inspector Zenigata". He reminds her not to talk, concerned that Cabane's henchmen are around. She declares the entire situation hopeless. She insists on him calling her "Laura", not "Madam" as he had done out of politeness. The two lean in for a kiss. Unfortunately, Zenigata sits on a pitchfork and yelps in pain. Picking up the pitchfork, Zenigata discovers that a microphone is attached and pulls the wire. He throws the pitchfork as a henchman is hiding among the hay. The henchman shoots at him. While Zenigata ducks to avoid the shot, Laura is hit and dies in his arms.
Zenigata, bereaved, carries her body across the blustery field, and is given a lift by Jigen, who expresses his condolences. It's likely that Zenigata buried Laura somewhere.
Notes[]
- When it was announced that Pomade planted a bomb inside her heart, her eyes are black during this scene. Her eyes are also black when they run in the sewer.
