Kōsuke Kindani is a character from Lupin the 3rd Part 2 and is based on the Japanese detective Kōsuke Kindaichi.

Character History[]

Kindani is an eccentric Japanese detective who appears to be very poor, living in a house with cracked walls, wearing a robe and trousers as well as having bad dandruff. He also gets easily stressed.

He was invited by Gabriel XIII to the Hendenburg along with Sherlock Holmes III, Philip Archer, and Koichi Zenigata to protect the Dracula's Tear from being taken by Lupin III. When he arrived in Germany, he boarded the Hendeburg. However, he was almost immediately captured and stored away by Lupin's gang, and Goemon Ishikawa XIII disguised himself as him.

Kosuke Kindaichi is a fictional detective created by Seishi Yokomizo.

While 77 stories were written, only two had received an English translation. They were The Inugami Clan and The Murder in the Honjin (translated as The Honjin Murders). Both were adapted into films.

The Murder in the Honjin was adapted as Death at an Old Mansion in 1976. The Inugami Clan was adapted as The Inugami Family also in 1976 directed by Kon Ichikawa, it also had a soundtrack by Yuji Ohno the same composer as this series. It was then remade as The Inugamis in 2006 by the same director.

Etymology[]

  • The name Kosuke means "till, plow, cultivate" (耕) (ko) and "help, rescue, assist/assistant/assistance" (助) (suke).
  • Kosuke's surname Kindani means "gold/metal, money/cash, currency" (金) (kin), "field, rice paddy" (田) (ta/da) and "two" (二) (ni).

Notes[]

  • In the English dub, he speaks in a generic surfer voice.
  • When he was introduced, he was standing upside down and fell down when an elderly woman announced a new case.
  • His voice actor in the original Japanese version, Rokuro Naya, was the brother to Zenigata's voice actor, Goro Naya.
