Jito-Ryu Commander is a character of Lupin the 3rd Part 1.
History[]
Jito-Ryu Commander was a swordsman who practiced the Jito style. Twenty five years ago (presumably 1956) on a windy day, he encountered Lupin II who laughed and claimed that his dull sword couldn't cut a radish. He was furious and decided to attack him however the dagger of Lupin II broke his sword. It was his only defeat that he had in his life as he didn't realize that he was inexperienced. He thought that if he had access to Lupin II's dagger, he would consider himself invincible.
As revenge, he swapped the dagger around with another as he tricked one of Lupin II's henchmen and obtained the secret of the Zantetsuken. While it is not shown, it is implied that he stole the scrolls and had taught Goemon Ishikawa XIII how to use the Zantetsuken who then became a master. Afterwards he got involved with the criminal underworld.
A trial was set up as Goemon challenged people to see if they can beat the Zantetsuken. Lupin III disguised as Hanji of Annaka had arrived and Goemon jumped up breaking Lupin's stick. The Commander was watching the event and compliment Goemon from the rooftop. They went down in an underground tunnel where the scrolls were located, he opened a door to find a secret lab as two blacksmiths were working on strengthening the Zantetsuken. He wanted Goemon to test the improved sword.
In his cliff-side house, the Commander had a bird on his shoulder and found Goemon's skills to be superior but thought that he was missing something being a heart of iron. He grabbed the bird to its death and threw it towards Goemon, he then pushed his doors open to see the view from outside as he knew that a suspicious character had arrived at the trial and knew that it was Lupin. Goemon was surprised and the commander asked him what to do with the response being that he will kill him, he then walked away from the commander and destroyed a bug that Lupin had planted on him.
Lupin had managed to open the secret door where the Commander's bedroom was located, just as he was about to grab the Zantetsuken Lupin grabbed it and turned the lights on. Lupin wanted to know the secret of the Zantetsuken and pointed the sword to his face, he agreed and Lupin lowered the sword as he explain what happened 25 years ago and confirmed that it was Lupin's father as Lupin asked a question. Lupin considered his father to be a great thief and complimented that he stole from him.
Lupin wanted to know where the scrolls are and threatened him with the sword, the commander did not want to tell Lupin the location however Goemon had access to the scrolls. He told Goemon to kill Lupin and commanded him however Goemon refused as he heard the story. Lupin wanted the scrolls but also refused saying that they should battle against each other and the winner gets the scrolls. He wonder how Lupin would fight since he had the Zantetsuken but Lupin had ideas.
A duel was set up between the Commander and Lupin with Goemon acting as referee, the commander was shocked as Lupin had a suit of armour. They walked back and then faced each other with him smiling, Lupin lowered his helmet and he sweated. Lupin fired from his Walther P38 and the commander deflected and sliced the bullets, he approached Lupin in a worry and then cut Lupin's helmet causing him to run away. The commander was swinging the Zantetsuken cutting up the suit of armour and Lupin decided to run around a tree with him chasing after him. Lupin shot upwards and the commander stood as a weight fell on him but was cut into half. A part of the weight fell on his head and Lupin laughed, he was angry and chased after Lupin but he fell into a trap. Lupin had dug up a hole and put fake grass on top as he had emerged as the winner.
He was still in the hole when Goemon had arrived, he wanted to say something but Goemon mentions that his job is done protecting the secret of the Zantetsuken and walked off to follow Lupin in a duel.
In Lupin the 3rd Part 5, he posted a message on PeopleLog saying that "he stole my secret scroll" unaware that they were actually three scrolls.
Mistakes[]
- In the flashback with Lupin II, he appeared not to have any pupils in his eyes as well as a scene where he talks to Goemon Ishikawa XIII in his cliff-top house.
Notes[]
- Part of his name, Sōsui translates as Commander however it could also mean leader or general. The English subtitles in Part 5 Episode 21 uses the name Jito-ryu Master.
- The English synopsis claims that Lupin III's father stole a dagger from him that was forged using the same process as the Zantetsuken however this does not seem to happen in the episode itself.
