Il Sogno Italiano, or the Italian Dream, is what drives the main plotline of Lupin the 3rd Part 4.

Early in the series, it is a term constantly thrown about with little to no information about it; halfway in the series, however, it is revealed to be an invention by scientist Wataru Uraga, which could implant someone's entire personality into another person's mind through dreams.

Uraga would later tell Lupin III through the Italian Dream to burn all of his research, including notes on how to make and use the Italian Dream. Despite that, Nyx manages to remember all of Uraga's research as Lupin burns it all down, and trades the information to MI6.

As part of Leonardo da Vinci's plan to tear Italy and the world apart to rebuild it to his liking, he uses the Italian Dream to put everyone in Italy to sleep and implant personifications of himself in their minds. Lupin and his gang, Fujiko Mine, Inspector Zenigata, Nyx and Robson manage to pass da Vinci's tests, with only Rebecca Rossellini failing. As a result, Lupin also decides to implant personifications of himself through the Italian Dream and saves everyone from da Vinci's grasp, which causes him to die as the clone's body couldn't handle da Vinci's mind.
