From Russia With Love (ロシアより愛をこめて Roshia Yori Ai o Komete?) is the 4th Lupin the 3rd TV special released on July 24, 1992.

Synopsis[]

Ultimate thief Lupin the Third has a new target: the lost gold of the Romanov dynasty! With the help of a mysterious blonde named Judy Scott, Lupin discovers the treasure hidden in Texas, at the Bank of Liberty. His partners Jigen and Fujiko lend a hand in harvesting the gold, but a few snags happen along the way. Not only does the New York Mafia own the gold, but Rasputon — the telepathic descendant of the mad monk Rasputin — wants it for himself! With Rasputon manipulating the world’s leaders and even a certain samurai, the stage is set for the battle over the Romanovs’ golden legacy!

The VHS release and early TV airings on Mediaset channels was censored however it is unknown what was removed.

Notes[]

  • When Discotek was going to release this special it was originally announced under "Bank of Liberty" (TMS English title) however they wanted something closer to the original name [2]. "From Siberia With Love" was the closest name that they could choose in the US due to sharing the same name as Ian Fleming's 007 novel and film From Russia With Love. Lupin III on the cover also makes a similar pose to James Bond from the film with the Walther pistol pointing in the same way.
  • This was the first TV Special that the planning was credited under "Lupin the 3rd Production Committee" (「ルパン三世」製作委員会 Rupan Sansei Seisaku Iinkai?). Apart from Orders to Assassinate Lupin and Pursue Harimao's Treasure!!, TV Specials had used this credit upto and including $1 Money Wars.
  • The name of the bank is frequently misspelled as "Bank of Libarty", due to Japanese pronunciation issues.
