Frédéric Hautrette is a character from Lupin the Third Part 5.
Character History[]
Frederic is a world famous sommelier (wine steward) who is renowned for his gemstone collection. He tried to pressure Count Monbassant to sell the emerald to him however the Count refused.
Isabelle invited him to her estate and he sat down smoking on a couch. When Isabelle invited him, Allan Dubois and Pierre Schmidt to be in the dining room, he complained about a lack of a meal and a glass of wine. Isabelle apologized and claimed that she was short staffed with only Marie who turned up. She showed them the emerald that they were interested in and gasped. As Pierre wanted to go, Frederic asked him whether he was running away. He laughed when Allan called Pierre "a drunk".
After the murder of Isabelle and she pulled the drawbridge of the castle with the remote, Frederic asked "who the hell are you?" to Lupin III and he was going to reply Lupin but changed his mind to Jim Barnett and claimed that he was a private eye, he wanted to search him, Allan and Pierre. Frederic was furious and called Lupin a "two-bit gumshoe". When Lupin mentioned that someone in the room was the murderer, only Frederic kept his body language still while Allan was twitchy and Pierre drank from his container.
As Lupin and Marie discuss the murder and greeting the guests, Marie informs Lupin that only Frederic left his room and headed down towards the basement. In a flashback, Frederic asks Marie about the wine cellar but she says that she needs the permission from Isabelle. He was happy and understanding mentioning he'll go there some other time.
Marie got him and Allan into the dining room, they looked bored as they wait for Pierre who then came with his drink. Frederic asked Lupin whether he found the killer, he claimed that he had figured it out. After talking about the murder weapon, Frederic reminds Lupin that they got searched but didn't find the weapon and wanted an explanation. As they figure out about the murderer, he says that there is no one left in the castle to search. His correct assumption talks about a facial recognition system.
As Lupin goes on about pollen and closed curtains, Frederic yells at him to get to the point, he points towards Marie and claimed her as the obvious killer. He yells at her claiming that she could have slipped away without Lupin knowing and grabbed the gun to make it look like one of the three people to be the suspects. Despite her plea, he claims that she shot Isabelle in the dark as she moved behind them. Lupin removes her gloves and turns out that she had bandages on them unable to use the weapon.
Lupin says that there is a fourth guest in the castle but Frederic reminds him of the facial recognition system, Lupin replies and found the murderer. As Lupin shot Allan Dubois' Brother, he wondered that they were twins. It is unknown what happens afterwards what he did in the castle.
Notes[]
- According to the NZ facial recognition program, his loaded gallery is "Sylvestre".
- In Lupin's sketchbook, he drew Frederic as Frankenstein's monster.
- In the English dub, he has the same voice as Theodore Hannewald from Lupin the 3rd: Treasure of the Sorcerer King. This is due to that Paul St. Peter voiced both characters.
