Nami Hamanaka (浜中 奈美, Hamanaka Nami) is a character from Lupin the Third Part II.
Character history[]
Nami is a high school student from Hamanaka who goes to look after her grandfather who is a blacksmith. Like her grandfather, she is interested of finding a weapon that can beat the Zantetsuken. When she first met Goemon Ishikawa XIII who was cutting hay dummies containing girders, she was impressed with his skill and thought that he was an actor (Medieval in Japanese, Samurai in Italian). Behind his back, she stole one of the girders that he sliced and hid it behind her back to show to her grandfather. Instead of giving it to him, he sliced her back to grab the girder and was impressed by the cut.
She goes to Lupin who is eating an apple and asks him to find Goemon, he does so but knows that she stole something but she huffed at him and ran away. Later at night, she goes to Goemon who is sleeping and asked him to borrow the Zantetsuken but he refused. She noticed that his voice was not quite right but blamed it on a cold and coughed. As Goemon grabbed her arm and goes to his bed, it turns out it was Lupin III and she slapped him thinking that he would make love to her. She pouted and ran away but all Lupin wanted to do was play rock, paper, scissors with her.
The next day as it was snowing, she stands next to her grandfather holding an umbrella as he figured out the secret of the Zantetsuken. She was tasked to find out the temperature of the Zantetsuken and agreed but closes her eyes and sulked in shame.
She goes to Goemon who is busy reading and strips for him. As she was covering her breasts, she tells Goemon that Lupin and her did something. While it was not mentioned what she said, it implied that they made love and commented about a mole on his thigh. Knowing it is a lie, Goemon strikes the Zantetsuken towards her as it lies on her breasts and shoulders. With a surprised look on her face, she discovers that the sword is hot. Being ashamed, Goemon used his sword to cover up her nudity with a board and ran off.
She watches her grandfather struggle making his weapons and using her as a test dressed up in a robe but lowers it to show her cleavage, finds out whether the sword matches the temperature of the Zantetsuken. The first test was a success and decided for her grandfather to challenge Goemon with his sword. In a battle between her grandfather and Goemon with him winning, she comments that Goemon must be happy. Looking at her grandfather crying that he lost the battle, she felt that she had to help him achieve his dream.
They go and make the ultimate weapon but the tests were failing to the point that her grandfather is developing a fever. By the end, she helps him forge the last sword that he made.
Goemon does another demonstration and she watches again, her face has a dream like state as he cuts up the girders however one of the girders did not cut and it broke the "Zantetsuken". She was happy that "her grandfather's sword" was stronger but went straight to him as his health is declining, struggling to get up and had to have a walking stick. Nami held him and cried that he passed away.

- The name Nami means "apple tree" (奈) (na) and "beautiful" (美) (mi).
- Nami's surname Hamanaka means "beach, seashore" (浜) (hama) and "middle" (中) (naka).
Notes[]
- Due to the ambiguous 2nd year high school student reference, Nami could be either 13-14 if she is attending junior high or 16-17 if she is attending senior high school. Regardless of which, she is classed as a teenager.
