Character History[]

Fake Lupin (real name unknown) is a thief and an assassin who resembles Lupin III, he works for a doctor.

Manga[]

Fake Lupin approached a wealthy man for his jewels. The man said he was coming at midnight in three days, but the fake Lupin told him by then the place would be crawling with police, and that he was changing the game he played instead of cheating. The old man tried to shoot him but only grazed him. The fake Lupin then shot him with his Walther. He showed up the following night at the home of a wealthy man who hid himself in a safe. He entered the house pretending to be a journalist. Zenigata told the man to leave but had no such luck. As he tried to get the wealthy man to come out of the safe, the fake Lupin threw a chair out the window, claiming Lupin had escaped. While Zenigata was distracted, the fake Lupin threw a grenade in the safe and blew the man up. He helped trick Jigen and Goemon with a film that showed Lupin transforming into him. He altered Lupin's sex tape to show him killing the woman. After the psychiatrist told Jigen and Goemon that he had a disease where he transforms into a woman, the fake Lupin warned him not to get carried away. After Lupin became suicidal, he doubled over, and the fake Lupin emerged from the bed, escaping Goemon's grasp and dashing out the window. He was arrested by Zenigata, who didn't know that Lupin put film in his binoculars.

Anime[]

Fake Lupin appeared in the episode Two-Faced Lupin. While many of the events are similar, there are some changes between the two. The doctor was given the name Dr. Nomil.

In Paris, Lupin sent a note to Monsieur Fugo claiming that he will steal the Star of Versailles at the day after tomorrow at 3AM. Fugo was concerned that he might arrive earlier. Koichi Zenigata assured him that Lupin is a gentleman and will arrive on time. Fake Lupin snuck into the mansion, and was quickly discovered by Fugo. He introduced himself as Lupin III and demanded the Star of Versailles and the key to the safe be relinquished. Fugo reminded him of the note, but the impostor told him he can't stay true to his word. Deftly, he removed the safe key. Fugo called him a coward, but did as he was told.

Fugo tried to get a shot at the Lupin impostor, but the impostor was faster and the draw and fired multiple shots with his Walther P38. As he casually blew on his gun, he looked at the clock as it approached midnight and walked away with the Star of Versailles. When Zenigata looked at the body the next day, he claimed to have found Lupin's fingerprints.

Fake Lupin went to the next target, Zenial's African Queen ruby necklace. He had a rival there at the time: Fujiko Mine. He swung into the room on a rope and again introduced himself as Lupin III. Fujiko listened outside, thinking that it was Lupin. She tried to open the door. Zenial tried to shoot Fake Lupin but the impostor blew him up with a grenade. The explosion destroyed the door and knocked down Fujiko. She went inside to check on Zenial and spotted Fake Lupin taking the necklace. He saw Fujiko and tried to attack her, then made a break for it. Again the crime happened at midnight.

He went to Dr. Nomil's home to follow with the doctor's plan. Nomil spiked Lupin's drink with a sleeping pill and, just before Lupin collapsed, the impostor secretly showed Daisuke Jigen and Goemon Ishikawa XIII footage of what appears to be Lupin transforming into Fake Lupin at midnight, and tricking them into thinking the thief has Disguise Syndrome. After Jigen and Goemon left, Fake Lupin pulled out the projector that was used while Jigen and Goemon were watching from the screen. He and Nomil went into the front room and observed Lupin sleeping soundly over the table. Nomil had done Step 1 of the plan; Fake Lupin was willing to do Step 2.

While Lupin slept, Fake Lupin killed a woman and planted the body in Lupin's wardrobe in his hotel room. As Lupin checked via a video feed, he took Francine out to his room. By midnight, the edited video showed Lupin at midnight transforming into Fake Lupin and stabbed Francine with the knife.

After the real Lupin visited Dr. Nomil who claimed that his Disguise Syndrome was getting worse, Fake Lupin lit up a cigarette and bragged that even the cunning Lupin has been played ffor a sucker. Nomil affirmed that no matter what he did, Lupin would be blamed for the crimes.

Fake Lupin then shot someone at a bank, then another person, stabbed someone to get briefcases from a safe, stole ice cream from a child who was crying and as a news report showed, he had murdered 12 people, stolen 350 million francs of cash and 200 million francs of jewelry as well as an ice cream cone.

At a cafe, the two discussed their plans. The doctor suggested for his accomplice's face to be surgically altered to complete the plan. After that, they could live their lives in luxury. Over in the next table, Lupin spied on them.

At Dr. Nomil's house, Zenigata had come to arrest Lupin, not knowing that the Dr. Nomil beside him was Lupin himself in disguise. Thinking that the fake Lupin was the real one, Zenigata arrested him.
