Elder is a character of Lupin III (Manga) and its adaption in Lupin the 3rd Part 1.
History[]
The Elder (real name unknown) was the leader of a mountain side deserted village. Very little is known about him.
Manga[]
He appeared where Lupin III went to his hut and offered him money to buy the statue however the Elder made a blank face. Lupin was annoyed and shoved his hat covering his eyes while emptying the money bag declaring it to be his final offer. While the Elder was having a smoke, Lupin threw to his face his coat leaving only his boxers. The Elder demanded those too and got them. Lupin was naked while the Elder was impressed with the tiger print boxers and gave him the statue but tells him that the other was missing that he already knows about.
The Elder stood up as he noticed Fujiko Mine and Michi enter the hut, Lupin says that three years ago they went into the hut to steal the statue and he arranged for their escape. As Lupin wanted the statue, he pushed Fujiko and Michi outside the hut where there was a blizzard. They begged to give him the statue so he let them back in but told one of them to draw a map of its location. The Elder noticed as he got the map that it was on the dangerous Nuppuri Summit and while one of them saying that it is suicide to climb it before the summer, Lupin was willing to do so. Lupin embarrassingly asked for his clothes back and the Elder was willing to give it to him, he posed but Lupin was shocked. While he went out, Lupin slept with Fujiko and Michi.
The next day, the Elder tells Lupin that they stole his horses and Lupin dashed off to get the snowmobile out the garage and went after them. On a horse, the Elder's son came back and told him that Lupin fell for the plan however the Elder knows that he won't fall for it for long. The son says that the statues belong to them however the Elder mentions the three million in cash, he requested for the Elder to give him the money back but he knows that Lupin is a master thief and will do anything for them so it was easier to pay for the statues than it was to steal them.
After Lupin coming back to save Fujiko and Michi, the Elder had to refund the money and the boxers. He claims that money isn't everything and the statues to be sacred. Lupin then walked away saying that he would be back for the statues and the women. The Elder was not seen for the remainder of the chapter.
Anime[]
His role had expanded and developed a smug, greedy personality.
In a hut, he was tied and gagged by Hayate as he wanted the golden "Sister Statues". While he was muffled, Hayate laughed, told him not to cry and went off however he saw someone cut a hole with a saw. As Hayate mentioned that Lupin would come to save him, Fujiko stole one of the statues as Hayate grabbed an axe and threw it at the wall as she ran off then he followed her.
Hayate, Sumito and the rest of the subordinates returned to the hut and the Elder observed Sumito's failure to stop Fujiko as well as Hayate saying that if it wasn't for Fujiko, he would have caught Lupin. The Elder now with his gag removed laughed so Hayate gave him a quick punch to the face and pointed to Sumito to contact headquarters for further instructions. On the radio, Hayate contacted his boss from a radio saying that one of the statues was stolen and his boss informed him that the plan was made to solve their financial problems, he ordered more soldiers and was granted permission however was told not to make anymore mistakes. Hayate then killed Sumito with an thrown axe and looked at the Elder as he had a smug face and laughed, he walked towards him and hit him on the head with the axe causing a bump as Hayate did not find it funny.
The Elder told him that it was not funny but finds it stupid that he is killing his own men over the statues, Hayate then pointed at him as in the past, the Elder tried to rip him off from the deal by doubling then tripling the original offer. He tells Hayate that the "Sister Statues" are the only treasure left in the village and wants as much as he can from them as otherwise everything would have been lost if they were stolen. Hayate felt threatened and shoved the axe to the Elder's face as he thought that he had a big mouth, he then told Kumaso his plan to set traps around the village as he knew that Lupin and Fujiko are after the other statue. As Kumaso left, Hayate grabbed the statue laughing and smiling as he tells the Elder that there was more to come wondering who has the last laugh. The Elder laughed knowing that he will but Hayate threw the axe at him near his head and called him stupid while pointing, Hayate told the Elder that if he does it again he will be dead.
As Lupin and Daisuke Jigen head towards the village, Hayate returned to the hut after gathering reinforcements holding a dagger at the Elder. He wondered what he was going to do however Hayate helped by untying him but threatened him with the axe if he doesn't do what he says. The Elder got worried and nodded.
Lupin went to the hut that now has a fire and offered him money to buy the statue however the Elder smoked while Lupin was putting money onto the floor, he got so annoyed that he threw the money bag directly at him and demanded the statue. Still making a blank expression, Lupin gave him his green jacket then the rest of his clothes outside his boxers. The Elder demanded those too.
The Elder finally gave him the statue and Lupin called it beautiful. He informs Lupin that it is one of the statues so in exchange Lupin gave him Fujiko who was tied up in a bag, he knew that she was the one who stole it and Lupin gave him the other statue. With a surprised look, Fujiko untied herself and ran towards the door thinking that they had tricked her. Lupin laughed and explained that it was part of the plan, the Elder saw Lupin trying to make a move with Fujiko and failed.
The next morning, Fujiko had hit Lupin on the head, took the statues and left the hut. Also the Elder was tied up again however he was outside the hut. Lupin now fully clothed untied the Elder and apologized for wanting his clothes back, the Elder found it fine and told Lupin about the snowmobile in the garage. It turned out that it was a trap as in reality, Hayate had tied up Fujiko however the Elder knew that Lupin wouldn't fall for it. Then the subordinates had grabbed the Elder and Hayate told them to tie him up, he said that it wasn't as he promised however Hayate mentioned that he wanted his help but not an exchange for freedom.
Hayate is looking at both the statues with a smile thinking that Lupin is dead as the Elder and Fujiko were tied up sitting down next to each other, both Fujiko and Hayate were talking about how she felt about Lupin. The Elder looked the other way and told him that she doesn't mean it in that way, Hayate then slapped him and said that he talked too much taking the statues and the money. The Elder was surprised as that was not what was promised thinking that he would get a cut of the money, Hayate claimed that it was a change of plans and didn't like being mocked. He then said that no good will come to him by lying to elderly people.
Outside Lupin and Jigen were firing rockets at the village, Fujiko managed to free herself and told him that due to that he is there, Lupin is not aiming at their hut. The Elder told her to untie him then as a panic she untied him, he then tells her that Hayate has the statues. Fujiko however didn't want the statues and instead took what was inside them, he knew that she was a "quick one".
At the end, it is revealed that he had the treasure maps as he replaced them with fakes and got the statues as well as the money. He claims that it is his retirement and left the village traveled by horse on a sleigh.
