Lupin III Wiki

Chico is a character of Lupin the 3rd Part 2.

History[]

Chico is a child street hustler who lives in the Harlem neighborhood of New York. Most of the time he appears to be happy without a sense of fear. He likes ice cream to the point of being nicknamed Ice Cream Chico.

He sat on the windowsill and whistling to himself then noticed as Lupin III, Daisuke Jigen, Goemon Ishikawa XIII and Fujiko Mine were outside the cinema ready to watch Superman. After Lupin finished watching Superman and getting excited, a gun was pointed in his back and told him to freeze while doing as he says. Lupin walked down the alley with his hands up, he was tempted to look but was told no peeking as he didn't want to kill him and ordered to remove his clothes. After removing his red jacket and trousers, Lupin shook his trousers however only one coin came out. Chico was disappointed and instead asked Lupin to buy him ice cream, Lupin was surprised to see a child and Chico told him that gangsters in Harlem. He was happy that Lupin agreed to buy him ice cream however Lupin told him his name as he didn't like to be called "my guy" and told him to put the gun down. Chico tells him that the gun wasn't loaded and Lupin ran away in fear as Chico pretended to shoot him however he tripped up and ended up in a trash bin, he gave out his hand as he helped Lupin get up.

Lupin bought him an ice cream cone as they sat down on some steps, he was writing autographs and Chico was surprised that he was the legendary Lupin the Third and told him his name. Still writing down, Lupin wondered why he doesn't go to school and Chico claimed that he went three years ago and left the next day, he thought that Chico was skipping steps but he considers it pragmatism. Lupin wondered why he wanted his autograph and wondered if he was a fan but Chico plans to sell them as he finished his ice cream and licking the remains. Yet he knows that they won't sell for much as parents don't want an autograph of a thief. Lupin sighed but Chico put his hand on his shoulder saying that he was the best then as Lupin cried, he stole money to buy another ice cream cone and ran off.

As Chico returned with the ice cream, Lupin pointed towards Markane and wondered who he was. Chico was eating his ice cream and told him a saying "never trust anyone in Harlem" saying that it is everyone for themselves. While Lupin was wondering, he managed to see Koichi Zenigata who came out of the car to arrest Lupin however he gets away as Zenigata chases after him.

Lupin and Zenigata were chasing each other on motorbikes, Chico had gathered a crowd and placed bets on who would win between the two claiming that it was the Harlem Grand Prix. They then moved sitting on a rooftop facing a train track as he claimed that they were the best seats in the house and ordered to pay up however two people sulked as Lupin and Zenigata stole their motorbikes and still need to pay for them. Then Chico decided to sell hot dogs as Zenigata and Lupin were driving the other way to avoid a train. As the chase finished and Zenigata struggled to swim in the water, Chico was watching from a boat and Lupin arrived to give Pops a float to help him swim. Lupin tells him that it makes them even causing Chico to gasp as he knew about the betting that was going off however Markane took the betting money and Chico says that it is part of living in Harlem. Being annoyed about Markane, Lupin decided for him to get his money back. Chico knew that he would do that and gave him an invite to a masquerade party.

After Lupin dressed up as Superman attended the party, Chico came out of Markane's mansion counting his ten coins saying don't trust anyone in Harlem. He put his cap back on and ran off happily.

While walking down the street eating an ice cream cone, Zenigata grabbed him and asked for Lupin however he was too busy eating. They ended up in the New York Hilton Hotel where Daisuke Jigen and Goemon Ishikawa XIII were staying. Zenigata told them that Chico wouldn't talk until he promised to give him a years supply of ice cream, Goemon mentions that criminals who go to Markane's mansion never return and he confirmed it while sniffing his finger. Jigen asked him to take them to the mansion and with one eye closed, he agreed.

They arrived at the mansion and after Jigen, Goemon and Zenigata dealt with the guests Lupin was ready to burn the money. Chico sat on the window ledge pointing his rifle telling him to hold it. Jigen and Goemon were going to strike however Lupin tells them not to. He asked Lupin whether the gun is loaded however Lupin tells Chico that he is the one person to trust in Harlem, he pulled the trigger then Lupin and Chico laughed while Jigen and Goemon smiled. They agreed that in 10 years time, Lupin and Chico would become rivals.

After Lupin burnt the money, he climbed out of the window to leave. They said goodbye while Lupin tells him to be a good person. Chico sulked after Lupin left.

He returned back home, sat on the windowsill and whistling to himself as he saw Fujiko dump her boyfriend outside the cinema while Lupin, Jigen and Goemon took her away and drove off.
