Badwalser is a character from Lupin the Third Part III.
Character History[]
Badwalser is a doctor who also specializes in cloning and is considered to be a Nobel Prize winning geneticist. He lives in a laboratory that it situated in front of a steep cliff, he is also known for laughing.
Lupin III had been suffering from athlete's foot and him along with Fujiko Mine came to see him. As Lupin screamed, Badwalser was trying to remove the fungal infection with tweezers and says that he also suffers from athlete's foot, he managed to yank it out of Lupin's foot that caused Lupin to ouch but Badwalser claimed that his aim was a bit off. Lupin thought that he also got the healthy part too as Badwalser using his microscope to look at the sample and says that it was just like how he had it however he tells Lupin to forget looking for a cure as even Nobel Prize winners struggled. He apologized to Lupin as his feet had started to itch, Badwalser however says that he can help if Lupin finds the Ancient Egyptian Lotus seed. Lupin's feet stopped itching and stood up as he agreed, Badwalser laughed as it is impossible since it is kept heavily guarded in the National Museum in Marseilles and that there are only three seeds in the world. Fujiko suggests that copies should be made of the lotus seed and he agreed saying that it was like "child's play", she got excited and says to clone them to make medicine for everyone, he thinks that it is an ambitious dream and gives Lupin some black liquid medicine to help with the itching. Lupin grabbed and smiled thinking that it was a lifesaver however Badwalser put Lupin's sample into the drawer. As Lupin left the room, he says to watch out for the long term effects
Unaware to Lupin, Fujiko had given him itchy socks. Badwalser also double crossed Lupin as outside the museum he was with Koichi Zenigata, he knew that Lupin would turn up and Lupin was impressed that they teamed up. He says that it was just business as he gave Zenigata Lupin's location while the inspector had given everything that he needed to know about Lupin. He considered Lupin's heritage and physiology to be an ideal research project to clean up some long term projects as he adjusted his glasses and laughed. Zenigata had then arrested Lupin and put him in a van, they stood next to each other and Zenigata gave him a briefcase that had a copy of the ICPO records on Lupin, he thanked Zenigata however he was not in a position to accept his thanks as it was an order from the Interpol HQ in New York and went into the van.
Back in his office, he toasted with Fujiko as he felt great that things went perfectly. He thought that Lupin was easy to trap and drank his wine as he thanked Fujiko and in her debt, he gave her a cheque of 2000FF. Fujiko thanked him however she thought that it was mean to take Lupin to the police as all he was suppose to do was to get the complete records from the ICPO and didn't want her as he stood up looking out of the window with his monkeys. He turned back to Fujiko as she knew that the files from ICPO and Lupin's foot sample were connected, he laughed as he considered it part of his collection as a geneticist. Fujiko put a bug under the table as he got out his briefcase the files saying that it was more interesting than cheap mystery or detective stories. He laughed as from today, he could sleep easily but Fujiko knows that Lupin will resent him and hope not to have nightmares. As Fujiko left the office, he laughed as everything went to plan and pulled a book from his cabinet to reveal a hidden vault.
Badwalser went into the vault as he was working on a clone of Lupin using the cells from the foot sample like his monkey that he cloned six months ago. He says within a month, he will have an army of Lupin babies. In a test tube he was sprinkling something to the sample as his animal cloning had been 100% successful, the sample caused it to smoke and using the files from the ICPO he will educate the Lupin babies to grow up like Lupin so they will become master thieves to his bidding. He laughed at the thought. Still in his vault, he wanted to challenge God and says that there will be another Lupin as he had a vision of a developed Lupin clone. He then opened the test tube and pressed some buttons as the cells were growing however the phone was ringing. He went into his office and was angry that Lupin escaped, he told to get here and protect him before Lupin shows up however Lupin had already arrived along with Daisuke Jigen and Goemon Ishikawa XIII.
He was shocked as Lupin did not want to be cloned and wanted his sample back, he was scared as he knew it would happen and got out his Colt pistol however Jigen fired to disarm it. Lupin told Badwalser to sit down and be quiet as Jigen noticed that Zenigata had summoned the entire police office of 2000 police officers. Lupin was pressing buttons hoping to open the vault but Badwalser says that he'll never be able to open the vault as the door was voice activated and unless he says the code, it wouldn't open. Lupin says that he can open any safe or vault and requesting for the code to open, to get Zenigata annoyed saying that it had nitro that will blow up within 50m. Badwalser was going to say something but Jigen pointed a gun to him to keep quiet as Zenigata flew the lab. Lupin got the tape recorder ready and he stood up wanting the tape back but Jigen pushed him back to his chair to keep quiet. He sighed as the vault door open after Fujiko left and thought that it was careless. Lupin got his megaphone saying that he will kill the doctor as the tape played with Badwalser's voice "Wait! Don't open the door! The devil is pointing a blade at me." It was the password to open the vault door and Lupin got the bug back, he knew that it was a wiretap as it recorded his voice onto tape. Lupin shouted that it was gas mask time and then went into the vault to get the sample back. Jigen had started to burn Lupin's records and he went to stop him however Goemon leaped and knocked him out with his Zantetsuken.
Goemon then put Badwalser onto his chair and pulled his face, he then covered the doctor's mouth and saying how to defeat the gas. As Lupin got the test tube saying that the gas breaks down with iron, Goemon put the covered Zantetsuken on his chin and the doctor panicked saying about his fruit of his long term research as Lupin opened the test tube to destroy the cells as it shouldn't exist. Zenigata then opened the door wearing a suit of armour but was pulled into the vault; it turned out the gang had tricked Zenigata into wearing the suit of armour and put a magnet inside. As a result, Badwalser was pinned to the magnet by the armour. Zenigata got free but the armour was still stuck on Badwalser, complete with the extra parts the Inspector left behind.
After Zenigata left the room, the door on the vault had started to close. He shouted not to close the door as it cannot be opened from the inside and screamed for help however no one came. His last words were "Break down the door". It is unknown whether Badwalser had died since he was trapped in the vault.
