Alan Budonson is a character of Lupin the 3rd Part 2.
History[]
Alan started out as a child actor but then became an experienced veteran actor, he turned out to be an unpopular actor despite his roles.
In New York, he went up an elevator while eating and entered a room. Alan wondered why a pretty lady offered him a role to an unpopular actor however Fujiko Mine offered him the lead role of a project that she calls Ukiyo-e Blues, he was selected out of 25,000 people. She lied as she claimed to be an established producer, scriptwriter and director, she then gave Alan the script.
He then played the role of Sharaku III, grandson of Toshusai Sharaku. On the plane, he sat next to Lupin III who was looking at a woman in his Playboy magazine while he was reading a book about Ukiyo-e showing various Japanese artworks. Lupin says to Sharaku that he has good taste but then started to have pain so Lupin was trying to find a doctor on the plane. He pulled Lupin's jacket and requested water while unscrewing some medication. Lupin got a glass of water from a flight attendant and gave it straight to him while he took his pills. He thanked Lupin and claimed to have a chronic heart condition having several attacks a day. Lupin picked up his book and flicked through the artwork wanting to have a collection some day.
They landed in New York and Lupin guided him to the taxi rank as he was ready to leave, however Sharaku had another attack so Lupin felt that he had to escort him home. The taxi dropped them off outside a run down area and Lupin took him to an apartment was impressed by the Japanese artwork that was around the room. Lupin thought that they were Sharaku replicas but he claimed to be the originals causing him to laugh, he claims that bad jokes are not good for his heart. Fujiko knocked on the door then opened the door surprised to see Lupin there. Lupin was surprised to see them both however she claimed that they met by strange chance, Sharaku tells her that Lupin looked after him on the plane. Fujiko asked him what he had done but he says that he went to Japan for his last visit, she told him that he was in no condition to travel. Lupin was surprised by his name and Fujiko tells him claiming to be a real third generation. Sharaku asks Fujiko whether she knows him, she does and says that he really wanted to meet Lupin. He then used his walking stick and asked Lupin but then started to have a heart attack.
Both Lupin and Fujiko put him to bed. As they were talking about the prints, Sharaku asked for Lupin. He wanted to get up but Fujiko held him down. Lupin claimed that he painted the fakes while switching with the real prints but Sharaku tells him that it wasn't that and pointed towards a blank frame. He wanted the last print to paint a replica otherwise his life work will be left unfinished. Fujiko put him back to bed to rest, he wanted to meet Lupin for a long time and says that his body is not at the best of shape. He also says that Lupin is the only person who can accomplish his goal. Lupin figured that he wanted to steal the last original print and replace it with a replica. Sharaku held Lupin's arm and after looking at him for a long time, he figured that he was the one sat next to him on the plane. He says that fate took a strange turn and requested Lupin to do the job to fulfill his dream. Lupin was unsure as he didn't want to do it for free but then Sharaku started to have another attack and claimed that he can't breathe. Fujiko says that he can have anything that he wants. He's more than happy to take the deal if it means he can finally get lucky with Fujiko.
The last print that he wants turns out to be of Goemon Ishikawa and Lupin orders a reluctant Daisuke Jigen to look after Sharaku. Jigen contacted Lupin and informs him that Sharaku suddenly started to moan and croak as he was struggling to breathe. He tried to get up from the bed to grab his last art piece. Since he couldn't, he grabbed Jigen's scotch and downed it instead.
They along with Goemon Ishikawa XIII returned to his bed as Fujiko held his wrist checking for a pulse. She lied and said that he was in a coma for quite some time, Jigen thought that it was the scotch that had done it. Lupin had successfully stolen the Goemon Ishikawa print and they returned to the apartment however it seemed that Sharaku had passed away with Jigen removing his hat as a sign of respect and Fujiko cried.
They took him to a graveyard along with the Ukiyo-e prints buried him. As Lupin, Jigen and Goemon drink in their hideout, Sharaku rises from his popup grave smiling and left with the Goemon print. Alan claims that it was his greatest performance of his life. There was a problem, Lupin forgot to remove the transmitter from the print and noticed that the radar started to move. Sharaku was walking down a street when Lupin, Jigen and Goemon drive towards him. He was shocked and kept the same expression when Lupin removed his face mask. Lupin got his costume and headed towards a restaurant in disguise to meet with Fujiko.
As Fujiko found that that Lupin stole the real prints and put the replicas on a kite, she found Alan bound and gagged in his underwear and hit on the head in the trunk of the car. Realizing Alan was replaced by Lupin, Fujiko reckons that he told Lupin everything and she found him pathetic that he couldn't come up with an excuse, she crossed her arms as she found out why he was an unpopular actor.
Notes[]
- His name is based on two actors, Alain Delon and Charles Bronson.
- The role that he played was connected since Sharaku was also an unpopular ukiyo-e artist at the time.
