Akabe Shishibana (獅子鼻 赤兵衛, Shishibana Akabe) was a character from Lupin the Third Part I who had a distinctive purple nose and appears to be grumpy.

Character History[]

Akabe was a henchman who worked with Fujiko Mine to get the scrolls that contained the secret of the Zantetsuken. He had arrived at the trial along with Hanji of Annaka, Shishamo of Hokkaido, Kaikin Horino and Fujiko who posed as Ginco Fujinami. He sat down waiting for his turn as Shishamo was taken out by Goemon Ishikawa XIII, with his arms crossed and grumpy he waited as Kaikin attempted to attack Goemon in failure and was annoyed by the result. Akabe got up to attack Goemon however he walked back with his face punched and his nose bleeding falling to the ground.

At night time as Lupin III sneaked into a house to get Fujiko's attention, him along with Shishamo and Kaikin surrounded Lupin with their weapons. After Lupin was taken out, Fujiko, Shishamo and him were waiting for a plane to fly by waiting for a package to drop. They were happy as the box contained machine guns and grenades, Fujiko ordered them to storm the underground tunnel where the scrolls are located as they took out the guards. Akabe threw a grenade at the metal door and blinded one of the guards who was behind the door. The guard shouted that no guns were allowed and he fired multiple bullets with his machine gun killing him however they both fell to the ground as the guard attempted to use his sword at him. He then ran towards the scrolls with Fujiko and Shishamo however Goemon was guarding the scrolls.

He watched as Goemon knew she was Fujiko and she wanted the scrolls as Goemon used his Zantetsuken to deflect the bullets that Shishamo had fired. Akabe was then killed by Goemon who used the Zantetsuken to slice his stomach.

Etymology[]

  • Akabe's surname Shishibana means "lion" (獅子) (shishi) and "nose" (鼻) (hana/bana).

Notes[]

  • His first name can be translated as Akabe, Akabee or Akabei.
  • When Akabe and the guard were fighting each other, POW could be seen at the back of his jacket.
