$1 Money Wars is the 12th Lupin the 3rd television special.

Synopsis[]

Lupin disguises himself and attends a New York City auction, bidding on an antique ring. The ring holds the secret location of a legendary broach; the broach is said to bring good fortune to whomever wears it and has been in the possession of notable leaders such as Napoleon, Lenin, and Hitler. When a bidder outbids him by one dollar, he decides to take the more traditional route and steal it. However, a heavily armed group of men lead by Alex Nabikov attempts to relieve him of his prize. Their boss is none other than Cynthia Craymov, the head of the Bank of the World.

Lupin gathers the troops to try to steal the ring back from Craymov's heavily protected headquarters. He succeeds in stealing it once again but appears to be fatally shot as they make their getaway. If Lupin is dead, who will stop Cynthia from obtaining the broach!?

Notes[]

  • This was the last TV Special and the last Lupin animation to be traditionally animated and last to be shot on film. From Alcatraz Connection onwards, they were digitally animated.
  • This was also the last TV Special produced by Tokyo Movie Shinsha and the first to be released and credited as TMS Entertainment due to the name change during production.
  • This was the last TV Special to be dubbed by Funimation as part of a package from NTV and no TV Specials were dubbed into English until Blood Seal - Eternal Mermaid.
  • Bank of World became Bank of the World in the English and Italian dubs.
  • After Zenigata discovers the police officer being taped up, he sees multiple Lupins across the auction:
  • There are other unidentifiable Lupins however the idea was based on Part 1 Episode 19 where there were multiple people disguised as Lupin to fool Zenigata and the real Lupin is disguised as an officer.
  • As Zenigata remove the Lupin face masks from people, a NTV cameraman can be seen. NTV being the network that aired the TV Special.
  • Originally the Italian dub used Hallo Lupin as its opening song. When this was aired on Italia 2 in Italy on its premiere on April 15th 2020 and its repeat on the 16th, Mediaset had used the Japanese DVD master due to not only that it had Japanese writing on its credits but also had the VAP video logo appear before the special. This meant that the TV Special was uncut.
